See what having upperclassmen can do for a team? Anderson has 6 seniors, 3 juniors, 1 soph and 3 freshmen while Clemson has zero seniors, 2 juniors, 6 sophs and 5 freshmen. It also doesn't help when Clemson goes 9-20 at the free throw line.

Sorry to bring up Tennessee, but they have 2 seniors, 1 junior, 4 sophs and 4 freshman. Young teams struggle.

2) Why is Geno so adamant about having extremely small squads? Yesterday we were down to 9 healthy players. At least have a walk-on or 2 to play the last few minutes of these incredibly one-sided games. I agree with Geno's reasoning almost all the time, but just on the tiny chance that the second CD and Bria can't start the season, it would seem better to have more than 9 players who can play.
I don't necessarily think Geno is adamant about extremely small squads. And you can't just say I want 2 walk-ons and magically they appear.

This team answers all the doubts. This is the best team Ive every seen in WCBB. This team will be great for a very long time.
Tony, Tony, Tony. I will say this could be a very, very, very good team. And they looked great last night. However maybe we let them win a regular season game against a Div I team prior to crowning them the best of all time. Or maybe even wait til they win a NC.

If he waits until then he won't be ahead of the curve on this.

It seems to me that there is something completely rational in all this speculation.
As Doggy, Tony, myself and others have pointed out, the team seems to cover virtually all the bases with regard the myriad number of skill sets required to make up a successful basketball organization.

What impresses me and what is new is athletic size: the two freshman combined with a renewed Steph and Kiah. I can't remember a comparable situ at UConn (or anywhere else for that matter); scoring, D, and a willingness to bang combined with the kind of god-given ability that the two kids could double as point if required.

But its important to have Bria back, that seals the deal.
I'm sure Geno goes to sleep every night with "visions of sugarplums dancing in his head."
If they stay healthy and happy, what could possibly stop this group?

It's like Stanford, only more talented and with really good guards.

I find myself in the awkward position of disagreeing with Geno and agreeing with huskybill. It's a freekin' nightmare.
Geno has stated he would prefer a squad of 12 or 13 players. Unfortunately, in the Faris recruiting year, he signed only 1 player. Now that player is quite an addition, but with a normal year of 2 or 3 recruits, the squad would have more depth. Also the 3 transfers didn't help the situation.

Everyone close to the XL should come to the wednesday game even though the opponent doesn't have a prayer.
Judging from the name of the school, they have plenty of prayers.

Good point. Although even then he may get arguments from Bird, DT, Cash, Geno, etc.

1) Megastorm Sandy.
2) Exhibition games notoriously fare poorly. I can't remember ever seeing a sold-out exhibition game at UConn.
3) The guy at the door didn't count you because you walked under the turnstile.
Wonk

1) I don't think too many were chased away by Sandy

2) 5400 were at the game. There's plenty of room between that and a sellout.

3) That's true, but I wasn't counted at the men's game either because I also walked under the turnstyle then.

Thanks TonyC for an upbeat and promising post. I am still dazed and depressed by the beating our football team was taking in south Florida last night !!!

Excellent post Tony and thanks for all the great info. Hard to believe I could be anymore psyched for the season to begin, but after reading your comments, I am! :)
