Good get for Bama. This will elevate their bball program. If they get that together along with their football they will become a formidable institution.

I think it's far more likely that Alabama will just continue to muddle around in mediocrity.

You don't think that hiring a middling NBA coach with no college experience is going to turn that program around?

He did win NBA coach of the year.

Not having college experience did not hurt Hoieberg or Ollie.

No clue how it will work out, but if he can recruit, he will do well.

Ollie at least had been an assistant, and was taking over a strong program with talent. Hoiberg has been great, but he's been the exception. I didn't think much of Johnson in the pros. There's a reason he keeps getting fired.

I always thought he'd be better in college.

This is a 'we are completely out of ideas and options' kind of move.

I feel like this is true, but apparently Johnson's been very involved in the AAU scene over the last couple of years (his kid was a freshman at Texas A&M this past year). If he can bring in a top recruiter with connections, I could see this working out relatively well.

Alabama will not be a force in basketball but because in the SEC they could make some noise there

He has a great basketball mind, and his record shows that. His inability to hang onto an NBA job stems from his personality and tendency to conflict with ownership. I don't think that will translate to the college game.

They used to get some good talent. God knows they have a lot of money to pay.

He wasn't fired by the Nets for conflicting with ownership - he was fired for his inability to win more than a third of his games.

Bama just threw money at a wall.

They can afford, though.

You could put Red Auerbach at the helm of the Nets between 2010 and 2012 and he wouldn't have been able to do much better. He was fired after finally bringing the team up to .500 and winning Conference Coach of the Month a few weeks earlier.

Just stop - the Nets were tanking when he got fired.

He always seemed to just a mouth to me. But that may work for him like it does for the Squid.
