At this point, what will you consider a successful season?

After much thought, I’m convinced there is a psychological mismanagement of this team. There are plenty clues from - AK, to blown close outs, inbound panics, missed chippies, blown shot clocks and passes to no one. They simply can’t be that bad. The approach has to change 180 degrees. No more championship basketball, this your superbowl, etc. It’s got to be make your own mark. No pressure. Have fun. They have written us off. Let’s prove them wrong. Give them the freedom to loosen up and play the game they love.

So yeah…..they control their own destiny. Win and you’re in. But missing tourney is very much on the table.

Honestly, no. I don't see a scenario where they close out the season 3-4, but even if they do I think we'd be in. The bubble this year is HORRIBLE. The teams on the bubble right now have 10 or 11 losses, and that's only going to increase over the next month
 
A successful season? Elite 8.

A season that I'll shrug and say "could have been worse" after losing to Seton Hall in the middle of February to drop to 17-8? Just get in and win a game..

If we finish 5-1 for the rest of the regular season, I'll up it to Sweet 16
 
Final Four. Every season that doesn't end in a FF isn't worth remembering. We can both have the talent to make a FF and not be that good of a team. Some notable teams to make the FF and their kenpom rating:

2024: NC State 45
2023: Miami 24
2018: Loyala 31
2017: South Carolina 24
2016: Syracuse 27
2011: Butler 36, VCU 53
2010: 20 MSU

You don't have to be an elite team to make the FF. You need luck, matchups, and to get hot.
 
I know there has been a lot of blame to the refs. I don’t buy that. It’s almost never the refs fault you lose. You have to play to how the game is being called. They are not calling the clutching and grabbing? Be tougher with the ball, push off to get open, whatever it takes. Complaining about lack of calls gets you nowhere - need to get tougher.

That being said, the Big East style of officiating is horrible for our style of play. Get into the tournament, get the right match ups and with more freedom of movement allowed, our lack of toughness may not be the achilles heel it has been in many losses this season.

25-12 Seton Hall and 20-13 SJU from last year would like a word. And sure the bubble may be softer this year but if i remember those two were farther from the bubble than the Big East had hoped.

I like your optimism about their finish. And i hope you’re right. I can see a 5-1 finish. I can also see a 2-4 finish. Between those is most likely.

But you are looking at the bubble with rose colored glasses. The committee will put a 15 loss SEC team in before a 12 loss BE team. That’s just the way it is.

What I believe would make this a successful season would be for us to win enough games from here out where we won't have 85% of the Boneyard behaving as if they need their mommies to change their diapers and give them pacifiers. Sadly, it appears that there are many here who would need to see us cutting down the nets in San Antonio or they'll be throwing temper tantrums all summer. Worse, there are a few here who would still complain even if we did pull that off, griping that we should have won more games in Npovember and in conference play.
 
I'm still not convinced they can't come together in the next month and win the whole thing. Bill Parcells had a saying about the playoffs - just get in! Anything can happen. They have to work on in bounds passing, time clock awareness, 3 point D and not making ill advised passes. If they come together, everybody jelling, the coaches at their best, they can beat anybody. I'll believe they can't win it all when they are eliminated. Whatever happens, we have nothing to complain about after the last 2 years and our incoming class.

Or it's just fans reacting to our worst loss since the 2019-2020 season under Hurley and arguably our biggest late game meltdown we've seen as Husky fans.

Hope is not.a strategy. We are 25 games into the season and everyone knows what we're working with and the spectrum. The team still has the opportunity to show us something different that's sustainable and turn some sort of corner. It hasn't happened yet 25 games in. We are all waiting for it.

Honestly, I'd put this one at #5:

2022 New Mexico State: We were all feeling ourselves and starved for tournament success. Localish pod with good matchups. Blew it. Didn't know what came next as the entire early Hurley period built towards that.

2019 St. Joe's: Dumped on by a bad team coming off a couple of bad seasons.

2024 Colorado: When it became clear that this wasn't a championship team and that the roster build had serious issues.

2023 St. John's: Uh-oh moment after losing by double digits at home to a bad St. John's team.

2025 Seton Hall: Complete failure as a program from the head coach down to the benchwarmers.

People can be mad about the loss. They don’t have to jump off the deep end though. Every single fan base in college hoops would trade their situation for what UConn fans have experienced recently. It’s important to keep perspective.
 
That's what I was thinking too. Sweet sixteen would definitely be a success but the way things are going, we might have to knock off a 1 or 2 seed for that so... it might not be very realistic.

The way things are going UConn will not have a good seed and could get bounced in round 1
17 wins with 6 regular season games remaining. Danger zone. Finish strong by pummeling SHU on March 8 heading into the BET. UConn needs to improve its ranking before the dance to have a chance at the Sweet 16.

It would be a success if the players gain self confidence. Try to attack a defender with dribble penetration. Not be scared in the moment. Like inbounding to win the game. Having confidence to shot FTs at the end of a game. Be physical/aggressive when going for the ball. Rebounding. Boxing out. Grasp the ball like you can't fumble. Play with aggression. And not play scared.

Would be a success if they do this within a weak. Good luck.

Realistically, getting to the round of 32.

Yesterday’s loss firmly puts this team back on the 8-9 line, which is probably where we end up. That sets us up for a showdown with a one seed in round two. While nice to think we can win that game, it’s highly highly unlikely. This squad doesn’t have the horsepower or mental toughness to win two games in a row, nevermind beat a 1 seed.
 
Couldn’t watch the game live yesterday. I have it taped but after reading a few threads on the yard I’m not sure I will watch it. If I had watched the game I’d probably lower my floor and my ceiling but since I didn’t I’ll keep my floor at a first round loss and my ceiling at an Elite 8 loss.

Only St. Joe's is as bad as this Seton Hall team. I don't think people are fully grasping how putrid this Seton Hall team is. We now need to take care of business the rest of the regular season to make the tournament because this is such an awful loss. It makes our next game against Nova a must win so we don't start looking really bubbly.

This still feels like an overreaction . Our NET is 35 and we’re 5-4 in Quad 1 games

The committee has said over and over they care about quality wins. Last year Seton's Hall best non-conf win was against a Missouri team that went winless in the SEC. Next up...Monmouth. St. John's was Utah who was an NIT team. Our non-conf. wins against Texas, Baylor, Gonzaga 1000x more impressive than anything those teams did last year. Throw in wins @ Marq, @ Creighton. Barring massive collapse here we're fine
 
Iif they don't make the NCAAs then this cannot be a successful season.

If they win the BET then it will be a successful season without even winning a game in NCAAs at this point.

If they make the NCAAs and win 1 game then I will consider it a bridge year to next season and that's what it will be. Anything beyond that will be successful given their low seed. Expectations to perform better next season will be there of course.
 
It's hard to say - I know that seems obvious, but with Diarra's injury that will plague him the rest of the season limiting his minutes and effectiveness, and the question marks surrounding who can play PG in his absence, it seems like making the NCAA's and getting out of the first round are about the ceiling of my expectations.
