He cannot be DC…the performance and recruiting has been awful. IF Mora keeps him in that role, then - on Day 1 - you are blowing up any narrative that results or performance matter.

Mora doesn’t strike me as that dumb. LB or Secondary coach seems fair to me if he wants to throw a life raft.

His defense gave up over 40 in 7 games this year (plus 38 to Holy Cross). 7 (and Holy Cross).

What’s amazing is you are right, that was an improvement over historically bad performance, that he is also responsible for. I don’t care how much time a “somewhat respectable” defense is on the field, they aren’t giving up that many points (including 38 to Holy Cross).

Did I mention Holy Cross destroyed his defense? At home…that is important, I should have added that earlier.

I wouldn't mind Spanos as a linebacker coach as he was very good at that in Pittsburgh for the Steelers.

They could keep a couple of coaches but I want all new offensive coaches

Mora is a defensive coach. His fingerprints will be all over that side of the ball regardless of who has what official position.

They have been classified as “Specialist 2A” in previous years I believe.

Anyone with two brain cells can see that with even a competent offense this defense wouldn’t be “historically bad”.

Take the best defense in the nation and put them on this team and we still blow.

Also Edsall took some defense coordinators who were successful everywhere and made them look like losers. You just have to look at what happened in his first season back when he changed everything and confused the hell out of everyone.

Lastly I actually watched the games this year. The defense usually did it’s part and wore down as the offense got progressively worse.

I’m not saying they were great. Just respectable. But you’re expecting the impossible.

DC Jarron Horton didn’t look like he was coaching his last game here either. If Spanos stays it wouldn’t shock me if he stays on a DB or

I would be very concerned if they retain significant portions of the coaching staff on either side of the ball. The defense struggled with fundamentals of simply maintaining outside contain, even making solid tackles. They played soft zones so often that setup teams to pick-up quick first downs when the DB inevitably dove at ankles and all too often whiffed. If you want to keep Spanos for continuity and given the prior relationship.. ok. If you're talking about keeping Spanos, Dottin-Carter and Horton... I'd start to be disappointed.

I would hope that Dottin-Carter & Horton were coaching their asses off because the kids deserve their best, not because they were promised a spot for next year.

Thinking Mora keeps Spanos as DC, Mazzone as OC. What about these roles, can Mora bring in new talent for Football Operations, and Player Personnel Director for recruiting? Assuming yes, since looks like both the guys in the current staff are Randy hires.
