Around the NCAA - Weekend of 12/21

Alpha D is a nice player for Providence.
Loved how he flexed his arms near the cheer leaders after dunking. Only problem was play had been called dead a couple of seconds earlier when he traveled.

Good win for Providence.

USF was up 17-4 against FSU early....Hamilton adjusted and full court pressed the rest of the game.

USF forced into four shot clock violations...FSU had 10 blocks...13 steals...went on a 17-1 run to pull ahead and win by 6.

USF had a great first half...the 24 TO's while pressed hurt them in second half.

Refs letting them play in Creighton/ASU. This is more wrestling match than basketball game.

Why wasn't Marcus Zegarowski recruited more by the northeast schools, especially Syracuse?

Depaul and Northwestern are playing a great game.

Creighton pulls out a tough one.

I enjoy the way Creighton plays. They pass it nice and shoot it good.

DePaul is so helter skelter. Some stretches they look great. Others they look really dumb. They hung on to beat Northwestern.

St. John's playing well against Arizona and leading in the first half without their best player.

What a day (week) for the Big East. Boy oh boy are we facing a jump up in competition next year.

Creighton plays a very aesthetically pleasing style. all of the players on their roster over 6'7" are injured otherwise they'd be a legit top 15 team. if they bring everyone back, which i think is very possible, they should be a preseason favorite in conference next year

Collins waited too long to

St. Johns up 14 at halftime.

The Big East is having a bit of a week. 13-1 overall, 8-1 against major conference opponents. St. Johns and Xavier still left.

LOL St. John's was trying to give that game away and Arizona just wouldn't take it.

And thank God for it

UConn is going to have its hands full next season. The Big East is really good top to bottom. Depaul, which is maybe the 7th or 8th best Big East team, is 5-0 against other major conference opponents.
When we come in and win the conference, we will know it was all about the name............

Florida went down to Utah St. Dang.

Really wish we made just one more play vs either Xavier or Indiana. Or maybe it won’t end up mattering????

Jesus the Big East is loaded. The best conference in da land top to bottom. This league is looking as heavy as some of those pre-2013 years. Who ever says otherwise is in denial

79% wpct by far best in the country

Looks like Nova will be a big time resume boost for us when we beat them.

Undermanned Johnnies hold on to beat #6 Zona. Big East is gonna get a bunch of teams in the tourny again.

St. John’s Coach Anderson is doing a heck of a job with a bunch of lower level guys. Aside from Figueroa and Heron St. John’s has a bunch of nobodies.

One of its players (don’t recall his name) transferred in from Houston Baptist College. Who ever heard of Houston Baptist? Their 2 point guards transferrred in from Cleveland State and mighty Momonth.

I was unfamiliar with Anderson when he coached at Arkansas but he apparently is a very good coach.

Mike Anderson coached Missouri against UConn in the Final 8 in 2009 when Anderson was at Missouri. I think Arkansas is one of the worst big conference jobs in college basketball, and I am not surprised he struggled there. Nolan Richardson succeeded at Arkansas, but a) he was an incredible coach, b) he was way ahead of other coaches in recruiting JUCO's, and c) he was crazy. No one else has been able to come close at Arkansas to what Richardson did before or since.

The Big East having a monster week is fun, but of all the Big East games in the last few days, today's Xavier vs. TCU game is the only one that directly impacts UConn. We need some UConn opponents to pick up wins, because the Huskies are sitting at a 72 NET right now, which means we are not even on the bubble.

UConn has to stomp it's next two opponents (margin of victory matters in NET through the efficiency ratings), and put up a big record in the AAC to hope to get a bid.

That was Kemba's breakout game.

Jeez UVA just got smacked by South Carolina. Already lost to Purdue by a large margin this month as well.

Xavier up 11 over TCU at half in Fort Worth. Woyld have been nice to have a win over X.
