Around the NCAA - week of 1/6

Are we legitimately the worst team in the AAC? Can't be, but sure looking that way early.

ECU beat USF tonight.
I wonder what the odds were that ECU and Tulane would both have AAC wins before UConn this year?

Houston held on @ Temple last night. Temple needs 2-3 more resume wins to be a serious NCAA contender, that‘s a missed opportunity for them

Oh please.

Back to actual basketball talk. Jayden Gardner was the only player who played for East Carolina last night who was also in the program last year. That's insane.

Check out this line from St. Bonaventure's Osun Osunniyi vs George Mason:

40 minutes, 8 points, 18 boards, 5 blocks, 4 assists, 3 steals.

I've already appreciated the Bonnie's and they've been deceptively good this year. Their top-seven players are underclassman too with sophomores Kyle Lofton, Dominick Welch and Osunniyi leading the team. Always respected Mark Schmidt as a coach too.

Wichita State Memphis on ESPN2 rn

Wichita St was up 19 in the second half. Down to 12 now

Memphis is overrated and we are beating Wichita St Sunday.

UCF leads Cincinnati 15-9 on ESPN2 halfway through the first half

I can’t get over how Cincinnati isn’t better than they are this year. Our result vs them is so baffling

I’m at a loss for words:

Power of a decent coach. Both schools have coaches in their first year at the program. But Ron Hunter is in his 22nd year as a head coach and Aaron McKie is in his first.
And the power of bringing in grad transfers that can actually contribute, unlike every transfer we’ve had since Gibbs/Miller. Regardless of who’s been the head coach, we’ve been awful at bringing in impact grad transfers since.

Green Wave getting better..

And yet...

Green Wave getting better..

Tulane is a real good team. dangerous. our victory the other day was boyz beating men. pretty cool in retrospect. I heard that last year they were 0-11 at home. this year? 6-0 so far. or something like that. only major flaw I can see is their weakness in the middle.

Indiana beats Ohio State.
when dickie v was broadcasting our game this year, he was all about o state being the number one team. hey dickie, welcome to ncaa 19-20, where the question of who is good is answered 'who knows?'

Ohio State is pretty baffling. They straight up dominated the nonconf. Large margin wins over Kentucky (n), Cincy, Villanova, @UNC (with Cole Anthony).

They're now 1-4 in the Big 10. It's a good conference, but jeez.

SMU at ECU -- Tied at 66 with under :30 to go and ECU at the line!!

EDIT: ECU hits a 3 with 2.7 secs to go.

EDIT2: ECU wins!! What a crazy season.

Not a fair comparison.

Firstly, only Lawson, Thompson and Thomas are grad transfers while Hightower and Walker are regular, sit-one transfers.

Secondly, aside from holdolders Zhang and Ona Embo, playing time was WIDE open for Tulane new players.

We all knew Lawson would be great, but Hightower was a 6.6 ppg player at Georgia, Thompson was a 5.7 ppg scorer at URI and Walker was a 1.8 ppg scorer at Seton Hall. This year, that trio has combined for almost 40 ppg.

Name me a UConn grad transfer since Gibbs who has not not one, not two, but three starting lineup spots to vie for. Anderson and Smith were signed to provide a third guard option while Onuorah was solely signed for depth reasons.

ECU now tied for 4th place in the league. Here's to hoping they only lose to UConn and win out!

Virginia is the embodiment of coaching doesn't matter, those players are terrible.

Tulsa just beat Houston 63-61. I don’t even know what to say anymore

Tulane beats Temple
ECU beats SMU
Tulsa beats Houston

If we lose to Wichita, we'll only be ahead of UCF in these early conference standings...

Seton Hall's season looked in shambles a few weeks ago and now they look a second consistent scorer away from being a National Title contender. They're playing the best defense in the country the last 5 games and they're a huge team with two serious rim protectors.

Seton Hall and Butler are probably the best positioned to make a run in March from the Big East. Seton Hall because they have a player who can takeover like Powell. And Butler because of their defense and toughness. Their coaching is untested in March so we’ll see. Villanova will always be a factor. I like Creighton too. They are good scorers and shooters and got a good win at Xavier. Don’t think Xavier has enough shooters to go far. Marquette not enough around Howard. And reality has start to hit at DePaul.

Auburn, Dayton, and Gonzaga have also looked very good when I've watched them

We haven’t had a center worthy of being a starter since Brimah graduated. DO and Yakwe were all we could get at that spot still. That’s not good enough
