Arizona Post Game Thread

Malachi brought a spark defensively when he came in with 5:42 left and we were down by 6. In the four minutes he played we then went up by 2.
I understand why Demary was brought back in but maybe we don’t get out scored 8-3 to end the game if Smith stayed in…who knows.
I agree Smith was giving us that defensive spark with his hard nose basketball and with no foul trouble he would of played Arizona's PG Bradley better especially on that drive were they went back ahead. Demary gives us more on offense but in this game we needed better D at the end.

Forget Reed.

Karaban was invisible on offense for 24 minutes.

And what has happened to Solo Ball? 1-8 from three. Now 26% on the season.

If these guys just play mediocre we win.
On top of 1-15 in the preseason. It's getting close to sounding the alarms. We need Mullins back.

This loss stinks for our resume, it was an opportunity. We now have to go out and smash the rest with Mullins & Reed out there. As a whole, not worried about what this says about our potential. We were missing our single most important player, and need our stud freshmen back to help plug some of the abysmal shooting we are getting from Ball. We'll be fine.

Still shocked we couldn't get Reed out there for 15 minutes. It would have made a difference.

AK always tends to disappear when he's up against stronger athletes. This is why I can't understand why he appears on any first round boards. The 3 FT misses were shades of Nova last year.

I honestly have no idea how we even kept that one close, other than AZ's lack of working for good shots on so many possessions. If they just drove it into the paint, they could have shot 80%.

Gritty comeback. Nice developmental game for Reibe (although cannot believe he couldn't finish that & one to tie it).

Silas turning it over and getting burnt on D in one sequence, Reibe missing a bunny and 1 opportunity to send it to OT potentially, Solo forcing a horrible shot for no reason, so many opportunities to squeak by with the win.

Reed and Mullins being out was the difference, we’re really good and gonna be a problem at full strength, but I can’t be the only one who feels like we should’ve pulled this out still?

Neither Reed nor Mullins were the reason we didn't win. FREE THROWS. Period.
Well Reed would of made a huge difference and we would of won that game with no trouble I think but yeah we still had a chance in this one if our big men could hit FTs.

The comeback to take the lead showed guts and moxy. Then the moxy left the last 1:40.

The team is very good, and very well constructed. It will improve week by week, and be really good by mid January.

Reibe showed he's not just a warm very young body on the bench. Kid can really play, and will complement Reed nicely.

Ball's shooting is great inside the arc ... and horrendous outside. He needs to be hitting 3's at 40%, it will open up a lot of options for everyone else.

Need to tighten up the D on dribble drive teams - like St. Johns. AZ got to the rim a little too easily from several players.
It seems that opponents are keeping Solo, Karaban and Demary off the 3 pt line and giving them the pullup or defending the drive. Only Jalen and Jayden (and Reibe LOL) getting the outside three without challenge. Going to have to work up more offensive plays to counter
this.

You gave up on the game with 19 minutes left.

They still should’ve won this game and it was a great effort for them to claw back and take the lead. At 1:47 it came down to (1) Arizona’s offensive board on a missed free throw, (2) Ball’s off balance 3 point shot miss early in the shot and (3) Demary’s turnover driving to the lane. If we convert on any of these possessions we win this game.

Another thing, is Smith took too many ill advised shots in this game with other shooters available. He was most effective getting his teammates the ball tonight. Plenty of lessons and make no mistake, this game was in our hands to win. Many of the errors were self inflicted. Losing at Gampel is never o.k. and it doesn’t matter that we were down two stud players. Just ask Danny.

Go Huskies!

Solo's 3ball is officially a concern, hasn't shot it well in any games including exhibitions and if it wasn't for some of the after the release foul calls that really didn't impact the shot the % would be even worse. Doing well off the middies and attacking the basket but the offense works too hard to get Solo open 3s to continuously miss damn near all of them.
Yes. Can’t be a top shooter in the country and come back as one of the least reliable. That’s a massive massive fall off. The difference between solo this year and ak last year is ball can hit those Rip type middies and boat style pullups

Do style points matter to the committee at all losing by 2 without two starters as opposed to double digits which looked very possible. Or just straight up losing to Zona with Reed and/or Mullins.

Also, props to Malachi. He gets a lot of unwarranted heat here and in the chat and I don't know what people are watching. He's our best passer and he harrasses the guards on defense.
And we fumbled a couple under the rim that cost us 4 pts. Smith should have had 10 or 11 asst. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a different game too.

I think anyone who though Karaban was going to evelvate his game past that of a role player can kiss that dream goodbye. I still think if we had Reed we win this game easily. He makes that much of a difference to our offense and draws the D from our shooters. Ball's off balance 3 early in the shot clock with us up 1 is criminal. What was he thinking when he took that shot? He should know that he can run some clock and work for a better shot or take it at the end of the shot clock. Just not at the beginning like he did. That was a big time brain fart that cost us the game.

Oh and P.S. Plz shoot a million free throws in practice. That was the worst shooting from the stripe in a while.
It was all Reibe and Koroma who were a combined 3-10. Of course Karaban's 3-5 and a miss on the front end of a one and one didn't help either. The team only shot 18 free throws total.

Arizona did what top 5 teams are supposed to do; take advantage an injured team. Actually Reed being out was a blessing in disguise. Riebe became a Man tonight.

On paper this will show a loss but actually it wasn't. Much was revealed about our team handling adversity this game, as Reed seemingly was late decision.

I have no complaints, because I saw something tonight in our team against a worthy opponent.
Very very good take. We had some dogs out there. Let's get healthy.

I hate to bang on a 3rd string center but I gotta see the tape on how Koroma scored dbl figures against power conference schools multiple times last year, it doesn't even look like he's trying to put the ball in the basket with these shot attempts and FTs. With Reed and Reibe healthy that won't be a concern but damn that's a rough watch.

Luckily I believe Mullins will pick up the gap that Solo is creating with his three point shooting. With both and Solo and Mullins, you should have guys that can hit the mid range game and the deep game.
