They werent that good last year either. They have some good players but havent been able to get it done this season. Arizona schools are better than expected and OSU appears to be a step behind Oregon/Stanford/UCLA. Curious how they'd do in the SEC, ACC or Big Ten.
I don't know if it's quite that dire. They've just lost some really close games -- to Stanford, to ASU, and now to Arizona. Even both of the Oregon games were relatively competitive. I think Friday's win over ASU might be the only really close game they've managed to pull out (despite Rueck's unparalleled genius at end-of-game situations).

Going into today's game, Oregon State was #10 in Massey and Arizona was #11. For them to lose in overtime is hardly a huge or disastrous upset.

In terms of games I'd like to see: Oregon State vs. Mississippi State. Let's make it happen.

I have watched a lot of the PAC12 games this year and even watching this game as my signature Sunday game, I didn't think it was that physical but maybe I am getting used to it. I do agree ASU is very aggressive and so is USC. I actually thought the UCLA-Cal game was more physical tonight. This game had a lot of fouls called in it so I do think after awhile the refs stop calling anything even if there are fouls. This was a good game and Arizona made shots when they need to and OSU did not. Both are really good teams and I suspect either of them could finish 2nd-5th.

They hit a swoon down the stretch last year, I thought they were fairly good most of the season. Had a nice stretch when they beat Oregon and UCLA.

Their game at Arizona was very close too. Interesting how all four of their games against the Arizona schools pretty much came down to the wire.

Your right about Massey.

Men and women's game, I've gotten so tired of how much attention is paid to offensive fouls and incidental contact out at the perimeter.

And then, officials seem to want to let rough work in the post and murders on drives go.

It's like someone in the rules committee has set out to make the game less enjoyable.

There is nothing more infuriating then watching the ball handler get crushed at the rim with no call.

I truly hate how far player control fouls have been adjusted to benefit the defense. Nothing is more detrimental to offense in college than that.

Kudos to Coach Barnes and the Cats. Fine defensive effort and persistence by the Wildcats on the road. Barnes is in the process of building a program that's going to challenge the top of the conference. While she is has scorers on this team her defense first approach is really working.

If McDonald returns for her senior year and Destiny Pitts picks Tucson I think they're going to be very tough next year. Particularly if Reese continues her development.

Pitts would have to sit out at least half a season wouldn't she? They already have Pellington formerly of Oklahoma sitting out as a RS this year. I think Pueyo's development is important too. She's maybe hit the Fr. wall recently but has been a nice player for them.

Unless she gets a waiver.

Rueck lost his cool after this one. Bordering on a fine, I would think.

anyone who watched have thoughts?

Sorry Scott but this one is on your team not the refs. Most know that in order to beat the Arizona schools you have to hit your 3's at a decent percentage. OSU had plenty of open looks but could only hit 24%.

Why is P-12 refs different? How many coaches in the P-12 agree with that and if it is a majority could they adress it during the off season with Larry Scott the P-12 commish?
If that is addressed to my referee's comment.

1 - the comment is mine. For 15 years my wife and I had season tix to Rutgers Women's Basketball, attending virtually every home game, virtually every tournament game (Big East, NCAA) and a selection of in-season away games (there were 2 years we made every game). So I saw a lot of referees.

Since 2011 we have had Arizona Season tix, we currently sit in "Scholarship Row" on the court and certainly get a close view. While our attendance hasn't been stellar for health reasons, we have watched quite a few games.

2 - For about 10 (or more) years, I tracked referee schedules - the amazing amount of work the top refs do (often 6 and sometimes 7 days a week all over the map), what conferences they work for, etc.

Less than 10 (probably quite a few less than 10) of the PAC 12 refs work any conferences that are not basically "west of the Rockies" although the Big 12 does have some. Only a handful in the eastern Power 5's, national refs such as Michael Price, Tiffany Bird, Chuck Gonzalez who are all PAC based but work elsewhere. PAC refs work particularly the Big Sky, West Coast, Big West (some), Mountain West, WAC and the like.

Conversely, few eastern refs come west. Roy Gulbeyan is an exception, and Cameron Inoyue, who for years was the most worked ref, used to come west on occasion.

3 - Every conference supervises and instructs its refs. Whether as a result of this, or the geographic divide, I have seen a very real difference in the way games are reffed in the PAC and on the east coast. Most notably, they tend to let a lot of loose ball action go, in a way that didn't (often) happen in the east. As a result, things do get physical. Make no mistake, things were plenty physical in the east, as well, just differently.

I'm not saying either is "wrong" or "better / worse" except that a few "scrums" in the PAC seemed a bit too much. Nor do I think, top to bottom, that PAC coaches want anything more than consistency in the referees.

True. An average shooting game for the Beavers would have won this game in regulation. Arizona has perhaps the top team defense in the conference. Foul trouble to two OSU starters in the third quarter took away whatever offensive momentum OSU had following a productive first half.
