Figured I'd give this it's own thread since she's one of our top targets. Didn't want it getting buried in the November recruiting thread.

Fingers crossed its us, don't like that she just visited Duke but you never know. Hope she commits to the good guys!

Playing Devil's Advocate here (and I know nothing about this player) but wouldn't it seem odd if her announcement for UConn was made a half hour before our first game of the season? Obviously our coaches would not be focused on this announcement at the time.

I'm sure the coaches at all five schools on her final list already know her decision.

Sounds to me like she got some PR training. She is giving the announcers something to talk about in Q2 when the scoring differential starts to expand and their attention wanes from the action on the court.

She’s going to Duke!!! I would be shocked if she chose us. Kara was on her from the very beginning. Every other program came late. She was just at Duke. She’s going to Duke. That ship has sunk. Hoping for Sarah but that’s up in the air. Either way we have amazing core coming back next year and 2 top 20 kids and Alli is ranked 4th and it could rise even higher depending on her last season of high school. Edwards and Nika are definitely going but Aubrey could stay. Don’t forget the transfer pool which sadly is taking over the game. A healthy Jana will give us one of the best front courts in the nation. Replacing Edwards is huge but I like our position we are in for next year regardless if Roberson and Strong go elsewhere.

The announcement is at 6:30 San Antonio time. That’s a bad sign to me.
Which would make it during our season opener, so, yup, a bad sign for the good guys. :(

I actually think it is positive for UConn and will get her talked about during the first game of the season. It would be a way for her to ensure attention separate from Strong.

I might be crazy but this announcement plan looks to have UConn communications fingerprints all over it.
The early signing period is Nov. 8 - 15, 2023.
That means that she couldn't sign yesterday.
I don't see any significance with whichever signing date that she chooses.
It only means that she made up her mind.

Actually I believe that she can sign any day she wants to, she just can't date it before the 8th.

Who knows what will happen. Maybe Geno is hold an extra scholarship for the following year. We already have two commits for 2025. And, I believe that we have offers out to Betts, Alexander and Johnson.

She is not announcing during the game. The coaches probably know her decision beforehand. Fingers crossed. Geno and CD could really develop her well.

Edit: It’s 6:30 CT.
Apparently, it’s 5:30 CT

It appears a bunch of recruits from her school are also announcing at the same time so if she wanted to join them, she had no choice as to the date or time........I'd say the odds are 60% -40% Duke over UConn but I've been wrong more than I've been right over the years.....

So if it's 5:30 CT that means she announces it a half hour before tip off. I like UConn's chances on her becoming a Husky. Only UConn and Oregon are playing that day and like

It appears that she is the only one that has not verbally committed to a team like the others have. If you notice everyone else is either wearing their University name or colors.

that or they all did the uniform thing on their visits............either way, I'm assuming she wanted to be a part of that group as opposed to doing a solo.......

This will be a lifetime memory for all of the recruits. But for some reason I would feel a lot more confident that she has chosen wisely if she just signed her NLI on the hood of her family car on her way to school.

I noticed that too, but I had to look up who the Islanders are. Natalie Huff did not look like a hockey player to me.

The group post says 5:30 CT, while Ari's IG story still says 6:30. Reading the tea leaves, I think she's picking a school in the Eastern Time Zone, meaning UConn or Duke.

My guess is Duke, it’s kinda obvious because she was just there. Not sure why but we have t gotten the bugs we have wanted recently. Oh well!

There’s often a lot of different people speaking at things like this. My guess is everyone in the group is going to go first, starting at 5:30 and her announcement will be last at 6:30, since she’s the only one that hasn’t publicly picked a school.

The Islanders is Texas A&M University - Corpus Christie Islanders, they have a DIV 1 basketball team which is a member of the Southland Conference.

I think somone said - after her First Night visit - that Arainna started following a number of UCONN folks on line - Twitter, etc...? That has to be a positive for us faithful BoneYarders and the team.
She also follows majority of the Duke team.

I would think that if a player visits a school a 2nd time so close to the start of the signing period. that it's to confirm that their impending decision was correct.
I can't help but think that most likely, it means that she has decided to go to Duke unless something during that visit made her change her mind.
The transfer portal certainly makes it easier to correct a mistake if a player later thinks that they made a bad choice.
She seems like a very smart young lady who wants to put her education first.
There may be other benefits involving Duke NIL opportunities that we don't know about that were included in her 2nd visit.

This is why the transfer portal was created, to help give youth a peace of mind guarantee that if they make a bad choice of schools then not to worry about it, because they'll get a 2nd bite at the apple.
There's nothing wrong with UConn accepting transfer players that already have a record of accomplishment & have gained some maturity.
That's simply become a part of modern coaching now - standard operating procedure - if a team has a real need for a special type of position player.
Even a top ranked player can transfer out just as easily as they can sign a letter of intent.
Just look at the top transfer players that have been in the national news.
I try not to anticpate where kids choose to go right after high school.
The kids who want to fulfill their childhood dream about attending UConn are the ones that I like the best.
They're not as indecisive about which school that they want to play for.

The transfer portal may not be as attractive now that the old rules are back in place, meaning that players will have to sit out one or two years, depending on the conference

I didn't find any rule changes that affects the one time transfer without penalty.
Have I missed a new rule prohibiting a player from being alllowed to transfer one time without penalty within the transfer portal window?
Are any major conferences prohibiting first time transfers in or out?
