Are we now Dook Fan’s most Despised Program

Thought this summed up their fan base at this point (from their board):

UConn is now responsible for probably 3 of the top 5 most painful Duke losses in my Duke fan lifetime. I'll never hate another team like UNC, but it's a clear, solid second place for me.
I would love to read a 12 page thread of Duke fans ranking their worst losses, would imagine michigan state with Zion, UNC in the final four, houston last year are on par with our three wins. I think the UNC loss though is potentially the worst loss in all of sports history

Imagine being a 1-seed and being heavy favorites and then dropped Calhoun's final game to an 8-seed Syracuse: only you hate them 100x more than us because they have more titles and are more historically prestigious. Those three losses to UConn were tough, but that has to be the worst.

Especially since they beat Duke at Cameron in K's final home game.
Those are almost certainly the other 2 in the top 5 most painful losses the kid was talking about. I went to grad school at UNC and the amount of time they spend discussing their Duke hatred -and vice versa- is downright irrational. Pretty entertaining to observe as an outsider (I could care less about UNC sports) and brethren Duke hater.

You want to know some funny/crazy facts as it relates to Duke and our old BE rivals?

We have only played Duke once in the past 10 years, and we are now 1-0 against them. Remember our old Big East brethren who abandoned UConn and the Big East to join the ACC to "compete" with Duke? Well we have as many wins over Duke in the past 10 years as each of those other teams despite them competing in their conference and us only facing Duke once. Here are their recent histories:

Syracuse : Has only 1 win in the past 10 years against Duke. They have lost their last 11 straight games against Duke and have not beat them since '18-'19.

Boston College : Has only 1 win in the past 15 years against Duke. They have lost their last 11 straight games against Duke and have not beat them since '17-'18.

Notre Dame : Has only 1 win in the past 10 years against Duke. They have lost their last 6 straight games against Duke and have not beaten them since '20-'21.

In the past 5 years, those three teams are a combined 0-19 against Duke. In the past 10 years, those three teams are a combined 3-35 against Duke.

That is insanity. Think Duke (and the ACC) regrets taking on the old BE dead weight programs? Or was it exactly what they wanted and they have their patsy's as they planned? Meanwhile, they get dominated when it matters against UConn. Gotta love it! 😀
I haven't read the whole thread so I apologize if someone else mentioned this, but I seem to recall the ACC was really struggling in basketball and needed to add teams that had been winning in basketball like Syracuse and Louisville. Miami and Virginia Tech were added for football, same for ND.
BCU? They say the Lord moves in mysterious ways................they were perhaps too eager to leave their brethren.

And now we take highly regarded sophomore from them

The reason so many people hate Dook is because of Dook Vitale literally kissing their asses for 30 years. Every game he did, every show he was part of, every time he even dreamed about MCBB, it was always DOOK DOOK DOOK

Hyperbole from the most hyperbolic man to ever live

Duck Fook

PS: OBVIOUSLY IT'S NOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORE TITLES. Because they don’t and ours are a lot more current.

Although they probably have 25 titles in November
That absolutely factored into Duke being a 9.5 pt favorite all that media hype while it was deserved it totally underrated UConn all year. I remember on the pre game show on ESPN the coaches all picked UConn and Digger Phelps did too knowing they were the better team that dominated St John's and Michigan State who Duke had close games against.

UNC will always own this title. However we own the title for the off-season due to the game and our history with the. Reading the posted message board link, they are extremely bitter. And if that shot didn't go in, our message board would have Duke hatred to a lesser degree. But anyways, Cayden Boozer will always have a special place in my heart.

The worst losses are when you were the massive favorite, blew a big lead at the end of the game, when you lose an elite 8 game bc its so close to the promised land, and when you lose on a buzzer beater.

.-.
In the wise words of Will Wade, "they're pretty mad for a coach player they didn't think was very good"

Remember how people remember the guy that Vince Carter posterized in the Olmpics, and that's all anyone remembers about the guy's basketball career? I feel like Cayden Boozer will suffer a similar fate, just instead of being remembered for getting posterized, it's the horrible TO he committed that led to the Mullins Miracle and Duke suffering their most gut-wrenching loss in history. 50 years from now, people will still be rewatching the Vinsanity clip along with the final 10 seconds of the UConn/Duke game.

Only because Duke fans can regularly schedule their UNC hatefest in advance.

UConn just shows up out of nowhere and steals their lunch.

My buddy who lives in Durham right in the heart of Duke land has stated that down there UCONN really isn't a concern of theirs. They are more focused on North Carolina and North Carolina State than they are with UConn.
