Michigan jumps 8 slots for beating a team that would lose to Ohio State in my opinion. They are not the same team as last years with the loss of Olivia Miles, who was rated by CBSSports the #2 player in the transfer portal. They also lost 6'5" center Kate Koval and two other players Kylee Watson and Emma Risch.

ND lost Citron too!!

The AP voters have all the necessary streaming services I'm sure.

Probably true, but games take 1.5+ hours if you fast forward through half time and the TV timeouts. How many games can a voter actually watch? I have to believe that at least some of the time a voter will rely on box scores and news reports rather than their own eyeballs. I bet this is especially true once you get beyond the top 10 or 15 teams. How many voters watched the last game of the #25 team?

There were four AP voters who did not vote UConn as the top team this week:

Alex Simon (San Francisco Gate) - had UConn first in the Preseason and Week 1. He switched UConn and UCLA (third in the first two polls) and kept South Carolina second.

Joe Vozzelli (News-Gazzette of central Illinois) - kept UConn at #2 behind South Carolina.

Khristina Williams (IHeartRadio, based out of New York) - switched UConn and South Carolina this week from what she voted in the Preseason and Week 1, moving the Huskies to second.

Mitchell Northam (WUNC - based out of the NC Triangle area) - kept South Carolina first, but changed his vote from his first two submissions elevating UCLA from fourth to second, and dropping UConn from second to third.

Thanks. I would not give SCar a first place vote - but that is not based on last years’ results. I would have us at 4/5 based on what we have this year.

UConn and UCLA should be 1 and 2 respectively.

AP polls in November might be interesting for discussion purposes for knowledgeable fans who have every right to praise or complain and certainly for sports prognosticators whose livelihood depends on prognosticating for their blog, paper, streaming and/or tv station. For the rest of us, it's what that fellow Will wrote some years ago: "Much Ado About Nothing."

I for one like to wait until later in the season when the NET ratings are issued particularly after December when there is a sufficient number of games played to make a more accurate ranking assessment. In the meantime, to me rankings right now are insignificant.

With all that said, my vote, even though de minims compared to the ranking gurus, has UConn as #1 right through March.
