AP Poll - Week 13 | The Boneyard

AP Poll - Week 13

If this were the NCAA rankings then we'd get something like:

1 UCLA / 7 LSU / 9 TCU / 15 UNC
4 USC / 5 Tex / 11 KanSt / 13 Okla

2 SCar / 8 OhSt / 10 Duke / 16 MichSt
3 ND / 6 UConn / 12 Ky / 14 Md

The #5, #6 & #7 spots are contentious.
Both Lobo & Phillippou have it as #5 UConn, #6 Texas & #7 LSU.
While Emily Adams (Hartford Courant) & the final weekly poll result have it as #5 Texas, #6 UConn & #7 LSU.
This is because LSU is -2 & Texas is +2, not enough voters wanted to nudge UConn upwards.

Wouldn’t rate Texas above us especially after Texas barely beat Ole Miss yesterday whom we beat by a larger margin.
But our game with them was on a neutral court.

Texas also took ND to overtime in South Bend, and we ... didn't.

Didn’t Texas also beat Tennessee this past week?
Yes & Texas won by 4 at home.
Since their loss to ND, Texas center Taylor Jones is playing more minutes & scoring more points per game.
Against Maryland Jones scored 13 points in 22 minutes.
Against Tenn Jones scored 21 points in 30 minutes.
Against Ole Miss Jones scored 24 points in 30 minutes.

But in their loss on Dec. 5th to ND she scored 8 points in 17 minutes.

Vic Schafer took the Ole Miss coach to school during the last 3 minutes of that game. Ole Miss has a 7 point lead! By the way, did anyone notice former Syracuse coach, Quintin Hillsman on the bench as assistant coach for Ole Miss. Interesting!

The Golden Domers lost their #1 votes this week...wonder what changed????

I would. Alabama is ranked above Vanderbilt even though Vanderbilt beat them yesterday. Texas has a better inside presence.

The Big East is not a good league and until UConn beats a ranked SC and Tenn they won't move without bad losses by someone else. The good though is if they do beat SC they will jump all the people who have jumped them and all will be good in the world. I guarantee you ND doesn't want UConn before the FF.

While related to the poll, I like our projected tournament match ups. Wouldn't bother me at all if we stayed in the same relative ranking level.

I don't understand the voters that are voting SoCar above UCLA, other than favoritism. Obviously UCLA is undefeated and SoCar's lone defeat was at the hands of the Bruins, so why the votes for the Gamecocks??? Gotta love the human element in this poll week in and week out.

Can't go by that ..it was a conference game

Not voterS, it’s one single “voter” In the AP. Last week, Car had one vote in the Coaches’ Poll. Notre Dame had two l?!. How

Now, the Computer/algorithm ratings have SCar ranked 1. Can’t disagree with them based on SOS. However, the committee is allowed to factor head to head and would be right to award UCLA the highest seed based on the outcome of that head to head outcome

Personally, UCLA is number one.

The ranking is who you think is the best team. Perhaps they think that SC has significantly improved and would win a rematch.
SC certainly has been very impressive/dominant in its games against ranked teams, so there is some reason to consider them the best.

Voters, plural? I see one first-place vote for SC.

I imagine this one voter probably took note of how SC completely destroyed a top 10 opponent in Oklahoma and a top 5 opponent in Texas. Frankly SC has looked like a better team than UCLA in the past few weeks. It's not a terribly unreasonable position to take.

Cassandra Negley with Yahoo! Sports. Voted Notre Dame #1 for the past few weeks running and switched to South Carolina this week.

In theory the poll is always supposed to represent how you think it will be at year end, not little moves based on 1 game here or there. (But I know it really does move week to week)

After watching SC physically dominate ranked team after ranked team, while UCLA only has meaningful games against SC and depleted Maryland with their back loaded schedule, it's easy for me to see a voter picking SC over UCLA.

My final four is still SC, ND, UConn and TX, so I would also not be voting UCLA at #1.

You are absolutely correct about a single vote for SoCar. I can only guess where the "s" came from. And the only reason I brought it up was because I Iooked at the voter that was previously voting ND #1 and noticed that SoCar was now their #1 pick.

I don't know which team is currently number one as I haven't watched either team play a full game. Recently I did look at the LSU v SoCar and MD v UCLA and in my opinion they are two completely different types of teams with each one looking pretty darn good. But if I had a vote, I would pick UCLA only because of their win over SoCar.

I don't follow wcbb much other than Uconn but is there a coach that has done a better job turning around a pretty bad program than what Shea Ralph has done so far at Vandy? Compared to where they were a few years ago to where they are now, impressive! Her buddy Marisa Maseley is not having much luck at Wisconsin and I have to wonder how long they will stay with her especially with how strong the Big Ten is now.

The key at Vandy is when they hired Shea they committed to fully support a women's basketball program. They now allow incoming players a significant break on academic requirements to be admitted, and they are supporting recruiting with NIL. This allows Vandy to now get top 100 recruits.

I'm not yet sure what limitations Mosely has on recruiting at Wisconsin, but if there are none, she can also quickly improve quality of recruits. Both Madison and Nashville are amazing college towns, so as long as there are no handcuffs on recruiting both can build solid programs.

I posted on the general board a story about Wisconsin. Her time may be ending sooner rather than later regardless of how good the big 10 is
