Shocked and grateful at the same time.

So many were piling on after Maui. Still ranked, #25...to those who hated, "I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!"

Now let's hope they prove they are worthy of those who voted for them.

Hey, what's wrong with hamsters?!

Shocker. I feel we should not even be ranked in the top 25.
My friend who is a St. John’s fan just texted me “ maybe St. John’s can be #25 someday”. Bitter aren’t they?

I don't understand why so many are surprised about being ranked. First, 2 time defending champs with our Coach Hurley at the helm. Second, perhaps these voters watched the Maui and formed their own opinions about the officiating, drawing their own conclusions. Who else belongs above UConn. Michigan State? Arkansas? Drake? You, Lt. Weinberg?!
Exactly. We can make weak excuses why we got blown out by Dayton. But there is no way the 2 losses prior, especially to Memphis, were convincing losses.

Do people care what other teams and their fans think of Hurley?
Exactly. Other teams and their fans hated him when he had NO championships, and more so when we won the last 2. Like we all adored coach K, or gentleman coach Williams, at their peak. Personally, IDC.

It's why I guessed that he was recently retired when he started posting all the tweets and podcasts a couple months ago. But he said he's only around 50 and not retired.

Keep it up, RuffRuff. We love the content.
College hoops is my one sports vice - only sport I truly love, pretty passive with the rest, even the one I played. So even if I’m sitting down to watch another sport, which isn’t often other than playoffs, usually cruising college hoops stuff in the background. Love the whole ecosystem from HS recruiting to the draft and everything in between.

What’s any sport without the narrative? Sports at its essence is entertainment, the best natural form of it. What’s the point in watching a bunch of tall dudes trying to put a round ball in a cylinder, who you don’t know personally? It’s how the pieces come together, the chemistry, the back story, the complexity of winning, Yada, that make it interesting. Can’t get into any sport without some depth in context, even college hoops.

Let's start the climb back! The drop is like a quick fall from a ledge, and the trip back is like scaling Mt. Everest.

I needed to stop sharing. I gave myself a one week reprieve. And it has helped. I went into the Memphis game expecting last year's team to suit up. That's on me. We almost won that game and we almost won the second game, during a time when our young team is clearly lost on defense, and during a time where our rotation is in flux, we played two experienced teams and gave them a run for their money (by the time the Dayton game happened these kids were emotionally spent. I am giving them a pass on that game). I am not sure that this is going to get fixed this calendar year. But we have too much talent for this team not to be a top 10 team. How far we go in March will be dictated by matchups and the growth of certain players. Aidan, Samson, JRoss and Nowell....you are key to our success this year. Looking forward to seeing your growth.

It's been a while since we had to look at stuff like this, but these teams lost this week..
  • #1 (2x)
  • #2 (but to #9)
  • #4
  • #5 (but to #6)
  • #7 (but to #2)
  • #8
  • #11 (2x)
  • #12
  • #14
  • #15 (to us)
  • #16
  • #18
  • #19
  • #20 (but to #10)
Meanwhile UConn (#25) was 2-0 with 2 Q1 wins, one being against a top 15 team. Because everyone else lost UConn could definitely jump 10+ spots into the top 15

Fanta is smoking weed with his latest list after our win. He has us at 21. Florida, who has played noone at 7, and Michigan st who got crushed by Memphis but beat #20 north carolina at 18, just to name a few of the more notable questions marks.

We lost 3 in a row. Literally a week ago. Let’s not go overrating ourselves. It’s early and we are improving. Rankings don’t matter that much.
