Also wanted to say congrats to Sue Semrau - AP Coach of the Year. I'm sure she'd rather be at the final 4, but she totally deserved that award...

Thought it was pretty funny that Stewie in her acceptance congratulated Sue before she was announced! Stewie's response: "But I told you I was going to congratulate you!" Morale: It is always the coach's job to get it right!

ESPN... a joke for us in CT. They treat us like dirt. Not sure why.
B. Stew showed the class that UConn players have (thanks, CD) when giving congrats to Sue Semrau, deservedly.

We probably need someone to make an official list of the NPOY awards. The WBCA gives out the Wade award, which is the their POY award. They give out POY awards to DII, DIII, NAIA, Jr. College and HS awards. So probably just the Naismith and Wooden are pending. I think the following list may be right, but please correct if wrong.

ESPN: Loyd
WBCA Wade: Stewart
AP: Stewart
Naismith: NA
Wooden: NA

Plus of course there's a position oriented awards like the Lieberman.
Ah, okay, then from above posts, corrected list is maybe:

ESPN: Loyd (maybe second level, but is a new one given out)
WBCA Wade: Stewart
AP: Stewart
Naismith: NA
Wooden: NA
USBWA: NA

And thanks for the acknowledgment on WBCA and Wade being the same, which has been discussed a few times previously but still seems to never sink in.

What about the Honda Award?

I never understand why folks think that. UConn gets a ton of press from ESPN. A ton of coverage. Is it that people are pissed when they have the temerity to acknowledge the existence of other programs and players?

Really great clip!! Thank you, Sluconn. I just love Moriah's absolutely joyful smile and the way she took her moment in the spotlight to give props to Morgan- that's a great teammate and friend. Kaleena was typically eloquent. Our kids are special- on and off the court.

Interestingly, in the AP's eyes Stewart is no longer simply a forward (nor even a center, if she ever was one).

Stewart helped the Huskies win the national championship in her first two years at the school and has UConn two victories away from a third straight title. The 6-foot-4 guard/forward averaged 17.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while helping UConn to a 36-1 record this season and an eighth straight trip to the Final Four.

WOW Muffy must have her shamrock in a bunch. :D
I agree however there are a lot of great guards who can put up points and UConn has 2 of them. How many guards are as good, close as good or maybe better then Loyd? There is no one close to Stewie and may not be any one in the world close to her abilities.

And if you want Stewie to be a guard.....she can do that too.

Congrats Stewie. Jewel is an excellent player and would have been a good choice too. However, Stewie is much more versatile. Jewel scores at the basket and can shoot. Stewie can drive, shoot, rebound and block shots. She's our Inspector Gadget and Swiss Army Knife. Wouldn't trade her for anybody. Class move congratulating Semrau.

So the Wade is considered the Heisman of WCBB? Is that the highest honor, or is one of the other awards considered more prestigious?

I believe the Wade may be the oldest and thus could be considered the most prestigious as this was the 38th presentation in a line that began with Carol Blazejowski and then Nancy Lieberman. But I could go with any of the awards that Stewie wins as being most prestigious.
