They’ve just been looking for a way to give it to Collier.I can't really believe that MVP voting could come down to FT shooting%. Really?

wow that’s crazyMeanwhile this was Napheesa Collier a season ago, who received not one first-place vote.

All good points. I was using the WNBA's stats page, not ESPN's.No nefarious motives here, bud. ESPN's WNBA lead statistics page for players doesn't show turnovers or A/TO, and neither Phee nor A'ja were anywhere in the top anything in assists to be worth reporting. And I'm confused by the link you sent, because both Phee and A'ja are listed at 1.6 steals per game, so I'm not sure what I got wrong there (1.6 = 1.6?), and again, per ESPN, they excluded Lacan for not playing enough games.
But man, gotta say, with no horse in this race, some of the Phee Phans are awfully salty about any arguments that don't favor her, which is weird to me - they both have great cases after having amazing seasons. I get that it's a homer board, but let's not lose complete sight of objectivity...
Edited to add: this site has even better stats. A few other notable stats: A'ja is also #1 in player efficiency rating, total win shares, offensive win shares, defensive win shares, and defensive rating, and #6 in offensive rating. Phee is #2, #2, #2, #5, #3, and #2 respectively. (As an aside, I was delighted to see my girl VB is 8th in win shares.)

2025 WNBA End-of-Season Award Picks
One writer's choices for every award that the WNBA hands out at the and of the regular season, including this year's tricky MVP decisionopen.substack.com
Burton was a revelation this season. I'm still really sad about Thornton's injury. She was having a heckuva season.Well here's a season ending award I think we can all agree on (or at least 68 of 72 of us!):

Valkyries' Veronica Burton wins WNBA's Most Improved award
Golden State Valkyries guard Veronica Burton won the WNBA's Most Improved Player award, receiving 68 of 72 votes.www.espn.com
Her defense is pretty good for a rookie. Paige ended the season #6 in steals (among all players, not just rookies) and #30 in blocks from the guard position. If Koclanes weren’t so determined to run Paige into the ground, she would have been more active on defense. I know I’m a homer but considering what was expected of her, I think Paige did very wellPaige had a great year but was on the worst team in the league, and she is not a great defender either.
Wilson's appeal to me has increased the longer she's been away from said coach. What's wild is I truly didn't care about this award until I saw a certain coach-turned-insurance-hawker give her version of the “If my person loses it's because it was rigged” spiel.
One would have to be an dyed in the wool anti-homer (dare I say, a Domer?) to say anything other than that Paige exceeded her absurdly high expectations for her rookie season. She's already one of the top players in the league and she was surrounded with a B to C team and a struggling coach. She will do fantastic things in the W as soon as she has teammates who can even proximately match her greatness.I know I’m a homer but considering what was expected of her, I think Paige did very well

... and yet is a very reasoned and fair poster, IMO! 😉I believe bballnut is a Lady Vol fan
Congratulations Coach Nakase and it wasn't even close! How many Fireball shots is this worth tonight? @TheFarmFan 😁 😉
FYI - wasn't sure if the WNBA awards were in a separate thread. My bad if there is one as I didn't see it at time of posting.
Unfortunately all my season ticket buddies can't join tonight, but my 82-year-old mother lives in San Jo, so she'll be joining me in their stead. Hopefully I can coax Mama FarmFan into taking a "Family Shot" because it'll have an extra dual meaning tonight! 😂 (And considering the can of Whoop@$$ the Lynx opened on us on Sunday, lord knows we'll probably need to be taking them...)

Veronica, like Naz, is a great example of players for the right coach, with the right system, and a coach that really believes in them.Burton was a revelation this season. I'm still really sad about Thornton's injury. She was having a heckuva season.
Quite the breakdown.
