Google chrome is an excellent choice of browser - if you appreciate a monster corporation knowing every website that you go to, the time of day, how long you stayed on each page, and so on, and storing that information forever.

Otherwise, use firefox, block cookies, and keep a script blocker up and running.

Oh. And what does "laptop doesn't work in firefox" mean?

I've been using Firefox for several years. It means that until 2 hours ago everything was fine, but now I can't post from my laptop .

Ah ok.
Can you access other sites/boards on the Internet through your laptop?
If so, it's the BY, not FF.

I've been using FF for a loooong time now. Never had an issue using it for any websites except govt. websites.

I have been having a lot of trouble using this site myself. It's fine when I use my iPad, but when I'm on my lap top and try to click on a thread it takes me back to the home page or a completely different site.

I was having a ton of problems with IE. My antivirus kept reporting bad things and the browser kept popping a message about cross scripting. On many folks suggestions from here, I switched to Chrome w/ the adblocker and MS Security Essentials (the most popular suggestions from my thread) and everything works great now - and about 3x as fast. Then I did a fresh install on a new SSD drive and my 5 year old computer runs really fast.

As for Google collecting information - everything collects information. It's the age we live in. Unless you get totally off the net, there is information about you somewhere. Lots of it. So I tend to look at the glass half full and think they can better predict things I actually want to see or go to. Also, I tend not to do things that I care other people knowing.

I wouldn't simply accept that information is being collected about you - use whatever you need to prevent that from happening to the best of your ability. Use Ghostery and you'll be amazed at the number of tentacles reaching into your computer by various sites.

I've had problems for a few days here using Chrome on a Mac - it's not a site issue, though, the latest version of Chrome for Mac is a lil buggy. I've had to use Safari to avoid pulling my hair out.

It was wiggy on IE for an hour earlier tonight. I'm used to the slow page loads and Google ad hic cups. It wasn't that.

I understand why Google wants to push their own scripting language (Dart) for their browser. Get into that political war sometime---ooh! But Google ad sites run so smooth with the DART plug in and DART scripting. It collects your entire life history without a hiccup! And you signed that release form? So cool! Here's a free song from Dirty Money.

Well I totally support your right to use whatever you want. From my perspective, google is a problem, as they represent the centralization and concentration of information about 90% of people. They've already shown that they can't be trusted, as they've been caught lying several times about privacy issues. Beyond that, they are a corporation created solely for the purpose of making money.
Things are still relatively peaceful in the U.S., but that is subject to change.
You say that you do things that you don't mind other people knowing. Extrapolate a few years out and you may discover that the changing world around you have also changed that perspective.
Remember - each and every one of us is going to break a law or two or three today. Guaranteed.

Fish, I'm not getting any message boxes in which to write. . Weird but effective method of censorship . I'm sure it's because I made the mistake of visiting The Cesspool and that is never a good thing. ;^)
