Anyone else love Gus Johnson and Jim Jackson?

Idk how anyone can complain about how they called the last 7ish minutes of the game. Were you watching Providence sleepwalking counting down the minutes while we were up 25? They have to talk about something

also, Jim Jackson is the most even keeled, non enthusiastic color commentator. He talks like a coach, not like an entertainer(not a complaint). Gus easily has to compensate for that when he’s working with Jackson, compared to other color guys.

Gus is definitely becoming the new Dickie V hype man, but he seems to keep it “within the confines of the broadcast” and hasnt become a talking head for networks to gas up their money motives.

All for it.

I like Gus and Jackson. There are definitely a bunch of announcing pairs that are markedly worse. I especially like when Gus amps up the energy when things start heating up like, when a team calls timeout after a devastating run.

Just happy we got a minimum of Clark accolades.

I am counter to most of the folks here. I love Gus. High energy, world class, builds the game up to an elite level. He brings passion.

Johnson, although he is tight with Rip, comes off as arrogant and lacks any joy for the game.

It sounds like you have a love/hate relationship with Gus Johnson.

I like the calls the past couple games. Our teams is so good, some of us are looking for things to complain about.

Connecticut……pop’n their collars!

Loved that one! Let’s be honest……we’ve all seen plenty of popped collars in CT.

Odd discrepancy
Media guide has what I assume are cotrect stats on our head to head
First game was in 1928
It is obviously an error that is/was in the stat sheet and handed to announcers. I don't think we need to cite the history here everyone on the boneyard knows. Yet if/when we are sticklers endeavoring to make 'cotrections', perhaps we should be error free in our posts ;)

I think Gus has changed his approach. He used to be pretty straight play by play, now he seems to see himself as more of an entertainer and it often gets in the way.
I find it the opposite. He was too over the top for me trying to be entertaining and just coming off as annoying while now hes toned it down a bit but im still no fan. I remember watching games where a guy would got to the basket for a layup seconds into the game and hes shouting like it was the greatest play hes ever seen. Uggh! Yeah. Not a fan.

The Johnson / Jackson combo is a massive step up from Brando / Marshall IMHO. There’s a reason those guys are doing the Saturday night game. Someone here made the spot-on observation that Marshall frequently seems unprepared for his games and as a result starts spouting nonsense to fill dead air (like his fangirling over CFJ in the first PC game).

It would not feel like March Madness without Gus. I do not get the hate for him. His energy is great.

PC didn't play UConn from 1947 to 1975 because they were fraidy scared. The two teams only played 11 times in over 50-odd years before the Big East was created. It's not like there was a rivalry before the teams were in the same league.

Gus is having fun and you can tell he loves the BE.

Anyone ever listen to the game on radio and mute the tv? I tried it once this year and it was actually not bad. The radio guys give out way more stats and facts.

“A body in motion stays in motion, a body at rest stays at rest. Newton’s Lawwwwwssssssss”

This was an all time line during the game yesterday. Felt like Gus was working on getting that one in all season.

Jim Jackson knows basketball, he always seems to be a good, unbiased listen.
Yes!!! T tried to recall this.

That is all factual information, I'm not sure what you wanted him to say

No, it's not factual. Figure it out.

We were members of the Big East for 34 years (1979-2013) then in the AAC for 7 years and back in the Big East since the start of the 2020 season. That's 37 years playing PC twice a year except the first year of the Big East when we only played teams once. A total of 73 games between 1/23/80 and 3/9/24.
UConn's record versus PC since 1949-50: 43-30

Since 1949-50

I’ll never understand why people don’t like guys like Gus Johnson who love what they do and bring excitement to the broadcast. And Jim Jackson is flat-out excellent! And Gus lets him talk.

Love Gus. His calls are fantastic. But I also really like Harlan.

I can barely deal with Gus Johnson as a play by play announcer. He doesn't know to let the game breathe. All too often he ruins a great moment by yelling and not letting us soak in the atmosphere. I want to hear to crowd, the stunned silence for a home team that loses to a team that they were supposed to beat or the crowd roar with a buzzer beater. He just never shuts up. In my opinion he is one of the worst PBP people in sports today.

Couldn't disagree more, that's what makes him great and why I want him on the call for big games. His excitement automatically elevates any play like that into being even more iconic. If all you want to hear is the atmosphere and crowd cheering just go to the game

Gus Johnson's voice gives you big game feels. I just think he tends to get lazy with some of his pre-game research for basketball. He's a ton smoother during football in my opinion. Coming down the stretch, having Gus Johnson on the call is a plus.
