You do realize that this in no way disproves my point, right?

It's not their job to wave the pom-poms. It's UConn's job. Just because some wahoo in Boise does it doesn't make it his job.

If they announced attendance as 45k+ they probably announced tickets sold. There were more than 10,000 empty seats there that day.

Even if it's accurate...Louisville lost at home to a terrible team from a "basketball school" with 10,000 empty seats, and they got the invite within a week or two.

We all want a sellout but it's only one game.

Well then it appears that the journalists at The Courant follow their "job" description much better than the several dozens of media members covering other programs around the country. But hey, why try to be positive and generate buzz when we can always continue to whine and complain that we are in the ACC, right?

Actually they already had the invite at that point. Perhaps the rest were in the parking lot celebrating that fact?
It is a luxury we don't have. If/ when we get an invite, then we don't have to sweat the empty seats...

I don't have the time to click on all of those, but I clicked on 4. The first three are about new promotions to get people to buy tickets. Purdue dropped prices to $5 for kids (previous low was $20). Iowa is offering the chance at free tuition. Another about saving money on gas by buying tickets. All promotions. Baylor is breaking ticket records.

The titles of the rest seem to be reporting news. Like tickets are on sale. Individual tickets are on sale. Or they are announcing they have sold record number of tickets.

What does this prove for UConn? It could be that the program doesn't want to discuss the numbers sold so they aren't feeding stories to the journalists. I've seen billboards, heard ads on the radio, and seen them in social media. UConn ran this as well... http://wtnh.com/2014/07/05/uconn-donating-football-tickets-to-military/

The media has done a good job covering the team and the practices. I think we need to remember the average reader wants to know more about the team, the players, how they look, not whether or not season ticket sales are on target. If the school has a promotion for tickets, they'll release it.

You can repeat the talking points, but you can't change the facts to match your narrative. They are what they are. 10,000+ empty seats, loss to a bad basketball program, invite 5 days later.

Louisville avg 2012: 50,000
Louisville avg 2013: 53,000
Louisville was picked over us in 2012 and yes, this was one of the reasons. Bigger crowds are indicative of a bigger football school. And that is the stated reason given by the ACC, that Louisville was the better football school.

So it wasn't "one game", but a better history and larger fan base over an extended period of time. Glad we could agree on this.

All I'm saying is that we all know that we're in the AAC. What I'd like to see is what are we all going to do about it? The UCONN fanbase really needs to #HuskyUp now more than ever. I think our fanbase needs some encouragement, not re-hashing depressing stories and quotes from a guy who threw UCONN under the bus a while back. For example, we had a discussion in another thread of whether or not the "Top of the Rent" tickets were going to be offered this season. Do you remember how we found out? A few of us refreshed the UCONN ticket website until a link appeared. I don't know if the casual fan will know to do that without somebody in the media directing them.

That's fair. I just don't think it's the media's job to direct fans where to go. It's UConn's job to promote it, not the Courant's. The Courant is barely surviving as a business, they can't be expected to do UConn's job for them.

You could email Dez' mailbag, ask him to put something on the blog about the top of the rent package.

Ok, they had the invite based on my whole narrative that I gave you, which was the point anyway. With the 10,000 empty seats the vote took place with their 50, 000 avg staring them in the face. Even with losing to your "basketball school"! Not sure why you emphasize that, it just makes my argument stronger. Guess they thought avg attendance was almost as important as winning.
That certainly means then that it would be ok for us to open the season on national tv with a big name opponent and show empty seats in a 40,000 seat stadium. Will not hurt our perception at all.

You're all over the place.

If you didn't disagree with the point of my original post, then you've been arguing with yourself. Here it is again...

"I was at the UConn/Louisville game when they were on their way to a BCS bowl. Maybe 40,000 people there in a stadium that seats 50k+.
There is far more to these decisions than what the attendance is for one game."

Once again, your op was wrong, the attendance was 45,618. Who is all over the place?
Now, you want to boldface the one game statement? Answer this then. If Uconn drew 2,000 people to a game this year, everything being equal, would that play any part in "these decisions"?
That should cover it

Why don't you just ask "What if UConn went 13-0 and beat FSU in the NCG?" Because that is more likely than having 2k in attendance for any UConn home game this year. If you're gonna go full on fantasy, go all in.

We'll draw better this year than we did last year, but those looking for a packed house for every quality opponent are going to be disappointed. We still went 3-9 last year and the average fan isn't looking at going to the games as their duty to get us into a better conference. The kind of culture you guys are talking about gets established with continued success on the field, not through desperation.

That said, I wasn't going to buy season tickets this year but I caved and bought 4 of them after all. CANNOT WAIT for the 29th.

Its gonna happen. Once the media starts covering in season and we whack BYU, they will start coming. There will be a healthy crowd for the opening game. I just want the folks that go to be jacked up like days of old.

Time to spread the word. The Rent needs to sell out if we want out of the AAC.

Tickets still remain for opener vs BYU. Any #UCONN fans complaining about realignment w/out holding a ticket are THE problem #HuskyUp
Judging by the sitting chart at uconnhuskies.com, I'd estimate about 1,000 tickets left (including club seats). I started counting individual green dots, but that is pretty tedious. If someone else wants to do it, be my guest, but this is my $0.02. There are only single seats left in some sections.

That's not #Huskying Up. Lazy. :)

In seriousness, I feel better if there are only 1,000 left. I'd imagine a good walk-up crowd on game day to snatch up what's left.

There are 2 less than when you looked. Having BYU come in here on Friday night of Labor Day weekend is an easier sell than I imagined. I now have 8 people coming including my son and I. The other 6 have never been to a UConn game. Hopefully have these 6 plus 6 more for back for Boise.

Took a sample and extrapolated...;)

Just for ha-ha's I made sure my seats were taken...Yup. Still gray.
