Any word on a new HC @ UConn yet?

But didn't we understand at the beginning of this season the defense was going to struggle due to the turnover after last season? Still, they played well enough to win 9 and take the 3 losses to overtime. Granted the offense made the season for us but still being understaffed I thought they did more than what everyone expected at the beginning.

I'm just looking at it from a recruiting standpoint. Potential recruits and portal transfers will see some continuity where if you bring in a new HC and he's not a brand name they are going to keep looking. A new HC has to start from scratch once again and how many times do we have to go through that? Every 3-4 years we have to deal with a new HC making grandiose statements to appease the base just so we can watch him sink or swim and 3 years later he's either canned or off to his "dream job". That's getting real old and you wonder why the fan base isn't growing.

Still have to be able to smooze players. Dan hated that part of the job and did not recruit well while at Florida. Just cannot cut the biggest checks.
Yeah I agree. Recruiting was not his passion at Florida. But. Those teams were actually decent. I am not sure if he has figured out the whole NIL thing yet at UNLV. They are great on offense….and awful on defense. Sound familiar?

I don’t think he would be the worst choice if DB was confident he figured the NIL stuff out

Was he the coach that made the QB quit for unfulfilled promises?

The modern game has passed Jon Gruden by.
I watched him break down quarterbacks, and he didn't lose anything. I think he likes what he is doing and would only come back for the NFL, not college, unless it was something really special

If he enjoyed recruiting he'd be very good here. He's probably untouchable as far as hires go, but we don't need the best scheme. We need a game manager that brings in ballers.

I don't see why they don't promote Sammis and try like hell to keep Brock. Continuity might be the best remedy for this program that seems to keep getting kicked in the privates every time they show they belong. Sammis did a great Job and Brock did well with having to replace so many.
We lived this already. Neither will be around in due time. Sammis will bolt when he doesn’t get the nod as HC and Brock isn’t hanging around to get let go by the next guy. Had a good thing going but Mora flipped the match and burned it down and we will have deal with the smoldering mess and re- re-re-re- build.. it gets tiring.

I think if Sammis was the guy, he would have been named already. Why wait? Guessing that Dave Benedict is chasing someone pretty specific. I’d hope to see the announcement sooner rather than later but it isn’t my decision

That's my sense as well. It's radio silence while he closes the deal. That's the right way to do it, though it's frustrating for us being on the outside and not being able to see any material signs of progress. We do need to get someone in sooner rather than later to stop the hemorrhaging and start bringing in new talent.

That’s been our problem.
Until Mora, or HC hires have been abysmal.

You could see the rationale for each, but none panned out.

PP- NFL, UConn guy, HS ties, college success
Diaco- upcoming talent, Broyles recipient, high energy
RE 2.0- cheap
Mora- NFL, college success, intangible factors aligned

If this is an argument for Sammis and continuity, I just don’t buy it.
Sammis has 2 years of OC experience. Prior to UConn, he’s basically a OL coach.

His success here is largely predicated on players before him. I like what he’s done as OC. I hope whoever we hire would give him a shot. I like that continuity.

But this hire is way to important to gamble on a a coach that hasn’t been HC ever, and has 2 years as OC.

Not a knock on Sammis, he just needs some more experience beyond 2 years as OC

Especially with Part 1 of Nationaling Signing Day being tomorrow (correct?)

Recruiting is way different now. It's more like hiring temp workers.

You just give kids a plan and and hopefully you hit the right number. It’s like speed dating. I think coaches might like it better now.
