Any word on a new HC @ UConn yet?

The question is too broad. Do you mean is there any good word, any positive word, any hopeful word, any discouraging word, or really any word that signifies movement...cuz right now there is ZERO word. We don't even have a job posting in the athletics department for a head coach with only 2 other postings for an "ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR COMPLIANCE SERVICES" and "Athletic Strength and Conditioning Volunteer Football Internship".

Now, rumor has it that UConn is looking to fill its head coaching job quickly, but not so quickly that it doesn't conduct due diligence, but not so slow that we won't have a coach until Spring, but I can neither confirm nor deny these rumors. It's a process you see, one that has me refreshing the damn website every few minutes to see if my angst can get any higher, and like Lewis Black's character in Inside Out, I'm finding I have untapped levels.

UConn most likely will need to wait for all of the other coaching vacancies to get filled, and then see what coaches are still looking for work. Then, once UConn identifies a coach and has a deal, the position needs to be posted for 5 days (minimum) before the new coach can be hired. It going to be a while.

I heard a rumor that Butch Jones is the "former SEC head coach" interested in the job... I could 100% get behind that.

Also, here's another one - Dan Mullen from UNLV.

He's an east coast guy and UNLV has money issues, they've been open that they can't afford his full 5 year $17.5M deal beyond next year. Who knows?

.-.
I don't see why they don't promote Sammis and try like hell to keep Brock. Continuity might be the best remedy for this program that seems to keep getting kicked in the privates every time they show they belong. Sammis did a great Job and Brock did well with having to replace so many.

No harm in that… should the bowl game be his interview? 10 wins and beat Pitt would be great way to start your UConn HC career.

Ask Michigan how that works.their coach is over his head

I’d also like a coach with more than 2 seasons as OC.
Need HC experience.

I heard Dan Mullen hated recruiting when he was at Florida. Maybe he has changed since being at UNLV.

Butch Jones did very well at Cincy and wasn't half bad at Tenn. Mullen definitely a shot in the dark. I say we look at Malzahn too.

Agree, but you do know that UConn will be playing with its 2's and 3's, right?

If it involves keeping Brock, Sammis can go. The might FAU offense we gave up 600 yards and 40 plus points only scored 3 against East Carolina.

I think a lot of guys that hated HS recruiting will thrive with the portal. Mullen would be a home run hire. He will have bigger job offers

Mullen is the highest paid HC in the MWC at $3.5 million per year with an assistant coaches pool of ~$2.8 million. That is not happening at UConn.

I say we look at Malzahn too.
Well, Malzahn called most of Auburn’s plays when Rhett Lashlee was OC in name, and didn’t discourage him leaving.

Maybe it needs to for a few years

It might have to if we expect to remain competitive in the current landscape. Like it or not, inflation hit coach salaries since Mora's first offer/extension payments were put in place.

But didn't we understand at the beginning of this season the defense was going to struggle due to the turnover after last season? Still, they played well enough to win 9 and take the 3 losses to overtime. Granted the offense made the season for us but still being understaffed I thought they did more than what everyone expected at the beginning.

I'm just looking at it from a recruiting standpoint. Potential recruits and portal transfers will see some continuity where if you bring in a new HC and he's not a brand name they are going to keep looking. A new HC has to start from scratch once again and how many times do we have to go through that? Every 3-4 years we have to deal with a new HC making grandiose statements to appease the base just so we can watch him sink or swim and 3 years later he's either canned or off to his "dream job". That's getting real old and you wonder why the fan base isn't growing.
