Any Braylon Mullins medical update

I didn’t slow it down but in real time it looks like the shoulder clears him and then something smacks him after the fact. It happens quick. Didn’t look terrible.
I agree that the impact didn't look terrible, when I first saw it I was hoping he just got poked in the eye. However the wooziness he displayed coming off the floor made it seem pretty bad. He couldn't even stand up straight without help, let alone walk. Unfortunately I think that's a better indicator of how severe of a concussion it is.

Recovery from concussions is just an incredibly varied thing. Like some have said, depending on the individual, he could be back in days or several weeks. All we can do is hope/pray for a full quick recovery.
Again, especially in this day and age, and considering the young man's skill set and potential future, expect Hurley & Co. to be extremely cautious with the young man.

The fact he was allowed to return to the bench during the game indicates to me that maybe the concussion isn't severe. Severe concussion usually means no stimulation or loud noise. I could be wrong maybe things have changed.

No I think you're right, good point that I didn't even think about.

When they cut to him on the bench one time, he didn't look good with his head in his hands. But that may have just been because he was upset at missing even more time

.-.
How long was Alex out with his concussion?

Wouldn't mind Mullins taking a game to try and get Ross and Stew back comfortable offensively.

Ross especially was making progress on that end before the hammy and hasn't been close to the same since.

Ross only made progress during wide open offensive games. He’s not good in the half court games which is now more of our style in the Big East. This isn’t a hammy situation anymore he just doesn’t handle it or pass it well in the half court, I’m not sure what all of you expect? Hes a talented kid but will be limited in the style we are playing as of late and unfortunately so is Stew. Our bench isn’t great scoring the ball but we will somehow need some magic without Braylon.

We need Braylon back asap but need to be careful with his health. He didn’t look good getting up, scary.

Good point because the music at PBA is very loud.

So TV had the other end of Mullins front, this has his back but Lewis' elbow seems deliberate to me still. Lewis left arm was down until Braylon got close then he fires off an elbow at his head. X has the worst controls you cannot stop it but check it out.
Nah Lewis didn't "fire off an elbow" more like when Braylon bent his head down to reach for the ball he collided with Lewis' shoulder which caused a backwards turn of Lewis' shoulder and arm. It was not intentional but it was unfortunate. Concussions are no joke at 74 I've had 5 and have some continuing issues because of them.

Mau, though I agree on most of your post I have a different take with Braylons injury. Ross needs more burn, you can see his progress coming back from the hamstring set back. Stewie adds more physicality and rebounding. They both can shoot it, not like Braylon but we don't drop off significantly with out him. I want Braylon back but for the small time that he might be out it will just make us that much better when tourney time comes, can't really hurt us. Maybe a loss or two and that can be a good thing too. Better now then tournament time.

Agree, the staff needs to focus on Stewart Ross, Milender, Furphy. Even if we take some losses.

Ross and Stewart becoming more significant and involved will be a silver lining/lemonade from a lemon. Would love to see Millender get a shot. Not interested in losing though.

Here's another angle from the cinematic recap:

That's about as good a look as you're going to get. Didn't look like an elbow but Mullins definitely got popped pretty good with whatever body part of Lewis's hit him. Shoulder? Forearm? Both?

.-.
Combo forearm and shoulder, flagrant when you combine the views. Back view shows a forearm shiver combined with shoulder leaning into the head. From the front looks like just the shoulder. Shoulder may have been inadvertent, forearm wasn't. Forearm brought the shoulder up into the head.

Milender and Furphy would be stretching it. Milender is interesting but Furphy is not ready yet.

Exactly how I see it. There was nothing unintentional about that arm being raised up. Should never have happened.

That's what it looked like to me also. I slowed it down frame by frame and I'm pretty sure it was Lewis's shoulder and not his elbow that got Mullins in the head.
I also played it back frame by frame several times and can see the Villanova player's left arm (non dribbling arm) raised to head level and his left hand striking Mullins sharply on the right side of his head. After that contact Mullins fell down holding his head. The ref was standing no more than 6 feet away looking directly at it. To me looked like an obvious flagrant 2 or at least a 1. Not sure what if anything was called. Any other takes on this?

He was dribbling up the sideline trying to get away from a reach in by Braylon. He didn’t do anything at all out of natural instincts to hurt Mullins on that play, no way any call was warranted. I think they just called OOBs on Nova.

I noticed that too and wondered if he was still showing the affects of the hit.

Initially, I thought he might have got hit in the jaw which can trigger a nerve causing a person to blackout for a moment. You see that in boxing. But as he was being helped off the floor, I remember him patting the side of his head explaining where he got hit.

When it comes to concussions, it is pointless to try to figure out how long he'll be out. Sometimes you see athletes return after a few days, other times much much longer.

We're all hoping for a speedy recovery, but in the meantime let's hope that other players step up and fill the gap as best they can. It's just unfortunate. He was playing really well and improving each game. I hope he doesn't experience any big setbacks and is able to pretty much pick up where he left off whenever he's back on the floor.
