My tv pretty much died this morning. It's turned into a tv/strobe light.

I need to order a new one by tomorrow.

My needs have changed a bit - my eyesight has gotten worse, so bigger and better resolution is needed.

Im toying with the idea of a projector. I'm told they've gotten much better. Not entirely sold on the idea though.

Suggestions?

Really? I love my LG C1 77 inch. You can't beat an LG for OLED. I do game on it some so that is where it really shines. It is great for watching sports too.
Yeah, I was surprised to be honest. It's a solid TV, and I'm considering a C4 42" for my desktop still, but I expected a bigger uplift in picture quality. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that most media is not of the greatest quality - even the 4k stuff I'm watching is off a stream or compressed HEVC file 99% of the time.

I got a 3440x1440 ultra wide for my desktop instead of a 4k monitor. Best decision ever. The Odyssey G85SB is on sale right now for $650 which is a bargain.

TCL is a mainland chinese company. Having some knowedge of the industry, I wouldn't buy one.
Mainland Chinese-domiciled company, albeit increasingly manufacturing or minimally assembling in Vietnam for cost savings and likely to skirt western sanctions. Related TCL Vietnam article (today Xinhua)

Similar to other companies limiting US and EU sanctions impacts, watch TCL and others increased presence respectively in Mexico and Hungary, Slovakia, etc.

Without knowing Jack sh|t regarding electronics manufacturing, purely anecdotal luck perhaps yet we’ve owned TCLs running strong for over a decade in Asia. My father in law user tests one probably 16 hours a day. NFW he’s careful given he seems to break most electronics sooner than their expected lifespans.

Similarly here in the States, we’ve had a few LVL 4K TVs for 3-8 years. We’re not laser-focused on absolute perfect, frequently updated TVs with all of the bells and whistles, clarity, massive size, etc, and we likely don’t watch as much TV as some people, but guess we’ve lucked out. If one dies, we’ll likely consider buying another.

Not a fan of ultrawides or curved screens myself, for my use (gaming, video) I prefer a standard screen.

For some reason none of the premium 42” monitors have been updated in two cycles. The Asus or Acer panel (I forget which) is still using a LG C2 panel :( I need to see if the C4 corrected some issues folks reported when used as a monitor, plus I have seen evidence that they are/were still sensitive to burn-in on that gen when compared to LCDs. No rush, the 32” panel I use as a primary screen isn’t small.
