He's become a favorite and for good reason. He's the energy guy we've been asking for all year. And he's only getting better.
Great D, our best athlete, smooth stroke, can play above the rim, good rebounder and is on almost every loose ball.

Any narrative that he isnt a huge piece for our BET, NCAA run and 26-27 team belongs in August of 2025.

One of my favorite Huskies in recent memory. Good on ya

J Ross is, now, exactly what we all hoped he could be.

He’s not a 1/2 option on O, but he’s not a minus there anymore. He’s bringing energy but ALSO sound D principles. He’s not making mistakes that take away from the positive plays.

He’s been a great role player, and if any UConn fan discounts the importance of role players, they haven’t paid attention to our national championship teams in the past. Every single one has had games and huge moments won by a role player playing big time.

Here’s to Ross being the 7th example along with Giffey, Kromah, Rash and Souleymane, Joey C, etc.

He’s filling the 3-and-D bench wing role that we really needed this year. Games like yesterday where we can get a lot of defensive pressure on their guards and generate live ball turnovers are where he really shines.

I'm curious as to how much time he saw his freshman year and if he could have a case to have it viewed as a redshirt season.

As that team was so dominant, he likely appeared in too many final minutes (Andrew Hurley time) that he won't qualify, but considering NCAA leniency on some of these matters, it wouldn't hurt to try.

He played 23 games. He’s not getting a redshirt.

Way to try and give him a compliment while continuing to limit what he can do lol

Most impressive part last night? He airballs his first shot and it did not deter him. That is huge. Good on you kid!
Solo also bounced back from airball on the same play. Maybe we should star the game with a couple.

Btw so there’s no confusion with goofies trying to make it out to seem like I’m trying to say Ross will be Kemba or something.

My official position going to next year if he’s a starter is he’ll fall in line with Andre and Castle as far as role, importance, and impact.

Calling him a 7th man at best for his career on the likes of Joey C and Kromah just sounds like a backhanded compliment from people who have to eat crow for not thinking he was even capable of being as good as he is now. And he’s scratching the surface still.

I’m ready for him to take all the confidence he’s playing with now into an offseason knowing he’s going to be a trusted Hurley player and one of the main guys for the team. If things shake out roster wise for him to be a starter.

You do love Kemba - of all the comparisons. I have to think you have a life size body pillow of him.

I do have a magazine and when I buy my house and build a man cave. Best believe one of the most iconic moments in March Madness history that involves a player who played for our favorite program and led the most iconic run ever will be on my wall (buzzer beater against Pitt).

Why the hell would we not love Kemba as UConn fans man?

No one said not to love him, but Ross -----> Kemba..........

I only said that because it’s been said previously that I’ve tried to make Ross out to be an All American to avoid simply eating crow.

Everyone thought he was capable of being a guy off the bench who could average 6 points with good defense by the end of his junior season which he's done over his last 6 games.

He just needed to cut out spazzing out when the ball was thrown to him and being more consistent with his defense. He still has the occasional fly by where he bites on a pump fake but overall he's brought energy and good defense.

In fairness, there were a lot of people that said he wouldn’t see real minutes. His outcome this year is clearly in between where some of the naysayers thought he’d be and where HW thought he’d be. And there’s a ton of value to this team to where he’s landed this season.

On Hoop Explorer, for the season, we have the 5th-best NetRtg in the country with JRoss on the court. We are 20th when he's off the court.

We are 9.5 Adj Pts/100 possessions better with him on the court. Equally balanced with improvement in both Adj Offense and Adj Defense Pts/100 possessions.

For the non-stats nerds, the darker the green, the more elite the stat is relative to the average D1 team:

You cannot put NCAA leniency and UConn in the same thought.

If they did I'm sure they didn't think he would clean up the between the ears stuff. Everyone knew he's a very good athlete, he showed flashes of that a long time ago against some cupcakes and this team is lacking in athleticism.

He's becoming what I'd hoped Marcus Johnson would. That's the guy he's always reminded me of most.
