Playing in the shadow of THREE All Americans can make it hard to make a strong name for yourself. Renee, Tina, and Maya cast VERY high shadows. While I'm not too familiar with the media down in Waco, I can imagine it's almost similar to the situation at Baylor. Odyssey Sims is a baller but when you play with someone like Brittney Griner, you can get pushed to the side a bit.

I'll admit I sometimes "forgot" about Maya her junior year because I was so struck by what Tina was accomplishing. Obviously I knew Maya was doing great things, but my attention was all on Tina, the eventual Player of the Year.

Tiffany is finally getting her chance to shine and show what she's capable of. Like I said before, you don't make it to the Top Ten in scoring (especially at a program like UConn) for doing nothing!

Though DT's senior season was hampered by especially back ailments before she went on the superhuman run through the NCAAs, it is interesting how closely Tiff's numbers are so far to the Call Me girl's.

-----2003-04-----2011-12-----
---------DT--------TH--------
Min.--- 31.9 ------ 29.8
FG%--- .456 ----- .532
3pt%--- .390 ----- .430
FT%--- .795 ----- .792
R\G--- 4.0 ------- 5.9
A\G--- 4.9 -------- 3.6
Stl----- 53 --------- 59 (35 games vs 26)
Blk---- 27 -----------9 (35 games vs 26)
P\G--- 16.2 ------ 15.9

Not too shabby when you're a UConn senior whose season's numbers so nicely match up with DTs. For 2012 to turn out like 2004, the key factor will be Tiff getting the FT% up another 0.3%. Possibly other factors may be involved.

Thanks. I was going to research that, but you beat me to it. Nice season for Tiffany!

In the case of Tina and Maya, the shadows were high both literally and figuratively. For Renee--winner of the Francis Pomeroy Naismith award as the best player 5'8" and under--it was true only figuratively. :D
