It was a highlight video, he is supposed to make them. They aren't going to show his misses. EW looked good in his highlight video a few years ago as well, doesn't actually tell you that much. With foreign players in particular, you really don't know how good they are until they play here.

really wish they would use the schollies for the 2014 class. Not to be Debbie Downer but why sign guys who arent good? Why not make a run for GREAT HS talent next year? Im sure we could bring in an amazing class like years past. With all the Schollies we have open and the new trend being kids wanting to play with other great players im sure we could get some MAJOR TALENT. I know no one wants to see this upcoming year as a loss of a year. But unfortunately it is a loss of a year, no tourney, no big east tourney. So no sense wasting scholarships on guys that arent good. Ie Wolf, Mandeldove, darius smith, trice, majok *alltho highly rated* Haralson, Ben Eaves, Rob Garrison. This list goes back some time but locking up a player of Wolfs talents for 4 years is a WASTE. Hopefully he can turn it around. But Calhoun needs to look at the future not in a year where he can go 41-0 and not one of those wins will be a championship. Im a diehard fan but i would take one losing season for a SOLID SOLID class next year with possibly 3-4 years of deep runs in the NCAA tourny.

This is fine:

If UConn gives Tolksdorf a scholarship, UConn is then at 10 players (6 returners and 4 new).

2013-2014:
  1. Napier (Sr.)
  2. Giffey (Sr.)
  3. Wolf (Sr.)
  4. Olander (Sr.)
  5. Boatright (Jr.)
  6. Daniels (Jr.)
  7. Nolan (So.)
  8. Calhoun (So.)
  9. Tolksdorf (So.)
  10. Evans (graduating) - Open
  11. Open (not yet filled for 2012)
  12. Open (not yet filled for 2012)
  13. Open (UConn gets Nate Miles scholarship back)
That's 4 available scholarships for the 2013 class.

2014-2015:
    1. Daniels (Sr.)
    2. Boatright (Sr.)
    3. Nolan (Jr.)
    4. Calhoun (Jr.)
    5. Tolksdorf (Jr.)
    6. 2013 player #1
    7. 2013 player #2
    8. 2013 player #3
    9. 2013 player #4
    10. Napier (graduating) - Open
    11. Giffey (graduating) - Open
    12. Wolf (graduating) - Open
    13. Olander (graduating) - Open
That's 4 available scholarships for the 2014 class.

That's not taking into account any transfers or early entries.

That is more than enough for both of those classes. UConn has rarely had success getting more than 4 studs in a class (if ever). The 5th-6th usually are lower rated players. This would balance the classes fairly well.

In the Courant article today it says that the coaches hope to sign another front court player this year. That would mean 11 scholarships for 2013, and 3 for the next incoming class (Evans graduates). I'm not sure who they could get at this point, but they do need big bodies when you look at who's gone and who's coming in. The question is do they hold the scholarship for next year, or do they try to take the best available now. I just don't know because I'm assuming that all 10 players (including possibly Tolksdorf) stay healthy. That hasn't been the case over the last couple of years, especially with big men.

I am in favor of this if it also means that a permanent German Oktoberfest Beer Tent is established for all UConn home basketball games!;)

Is the German player considered a frontcourt player or are they referring to someone else?

The staff wants a 4/3 that can handle, shoot a bit with some muscle. Not long lean we have plenty of that in DD/NG.

No, he's reportedly only 6'5'' (Tolksdorf), so the coaches must be referring to someone else.

Leon Tolksdorf to UConn.

The Courant has him at 6'8". Real size is probably 6'5" -6'6".

Jeff Adrien was listed at 6'7 and he's probably 6'5.5. Playing the 4 and rebounding is more about weight (and toughness) than height.

There are certainly exceptions, but there's a reason teams take chances on very raw big men, size helps a lot. Sure there are guys like Adrien and Blair, but they are the exception more than the rule.

he is more than likely 6'7" with shoes on and they do play with shoes last I remember. Not sure what the hang up is about his height. The only thing that matters is if he can help UConn this upcoming season.

Well I think the hang up is if he's actually 6'8'', then he has a more interesting skill set as a guy that could legitimately play the 4 spot (and hopefully not kill us defensively and on the boards) and yet still do some things on the perimeter offensively.

I'm generalizing, but essentially if he's 6'8'' then he can play the Roscoe role. If he's 6'5'' then he's probably more in the Giffey/Evans role. And we need more Roscoes at the moment.

People should not watch these videos with rose colored glasses. The conclusions posted are remarkable.

All I can say is to our German recruits, Willkommen bei UConn!

This never works out..Jim Calhoun needs to stop giving full rides to guys that cant play!

That is a phenomenal idea. You should write Coach Calhoun a letter - that type of advice shouldn't be kept to yourself.
