Another Example of SEC Mediocrity/Tenn loss

I'm legitimately curious - previously 6-10 Arkansas takes out Tennessee in dramatic fashion. Aside from the inevitable Margo rant, which should be a real treat, is this the worst regular season loss for LV fans in their history?

Va Tech was 7-1 at the time and is now 13-3. I can't see how that's the worst regular season loss.

I will expect they lose at least 3 games.... LOL

I'm thinking that we may not have seen their worst yet.

It would be difficult for them to play worse than they did against Arkansas. I can say, with some certainty, that tonight's second half was the worst half of basketball Tennessee has played in the last 10 years. Though, now that I think about it, this team might find a way to top tonight's dismal display. Holly isn't a great coach but this is also the most overrated group of players assembled on one team in a long, long time. Low BB IQ combined with a total lack of shooting skill equals tonight's result.

The thing about it is...they do have the talent and have shown some ability to win games.
So they could beat Notre Dame...not saying they will, but I bet they play tons better than they did tonight.
If they don't compete and lose to Vandy as well, they're really toast

From what it looks like, if the opponent handles the LV press, doesn't turn the ball over and give them easy transition baskets, then they struggle. If the press works, they look much better. Arkansas did a decent job handling the press, forced TN to play offense and defense and scored just enough to win.

I don't think ND will have a hard time handling the TN press so should win.

Formula for playing TN: Handle the ball reasonably well, shoot near forty percent, only lose the rebounding battle by around 10, and play a sagging zone defense and you win.

"they do have the talent and have shown some ability to win games." Well, they did beat Oregon St on the road. However, I look at the game as an aberration, an anomaly, something unexpected. I think their performances against VT, Florida, Texas, Stanford, Penn St, Chattanooga and Arkansas are the norm. Holly was able to take last year's generally accepted less talented Tennessee team to a share of the SEC title and to the NCAA elite 8, Does anyone think they will duplicate that feat this year ? Same coach + more talented players equals worse results ? Obviously, there's something wrong with that equation. The error lies in "the more talented players". It's a collection of players where each of them have one major flaw, they can't shoot ! The opposition just packs it in and dares Tennessee to beat them from outside. And they can't.

Missouri beat Mississippi St. 66-54. No doubt some SEC boosters will be claiming that Missouri really is pretty good after all, but they won't want you to look at the box score. The real story was the complete ineptitude of Mississippi St. on offense. Absolutely dreadful. MS shot 21-76 (28%) from the floor and 2-17 (12%) from 3-pt. Even Missouri shot only 5-18 (28%) from 3-pt, although they did manage an even 50% from the floor (25-50). Missouri also chipped in with 19 turnovers and 14 assists.
All in all, just another example of the general offensive mediocrity of the SEC. The Tennessee/Arkansas game was the icing on the cake with 2 more dismal offensive displays.
Even the South Carolina/Kentucky game was hard to watch at times.

I think I have figured out how the polls work - after this win by Arkansas over the top ten quality team TN, they will now enter the rankings around 22, and TN may drop one spot after losing on the road to the super tough SEC team that has obviously come on leaps and bounds after struggling out of the gate in their OOC.
Sort of like what happened with that other super tough SEC team, Florida, who played so well against TN (top ten quality) last week and were rewarded by finally being recognized. (The fact that Florida just lost at home to another super tough SEC Georgia team just shows we made a small mistake in not squeezing Georgia into our poll last week. I think it should really be something like SC #2, KY #6 (they did just play SC tough so they should move up a little), MS #9 (tough loss to another super tough SEC team),TAM #13 (good win against a really tough SEC team), TN #14, Missouri #16 (we dropped them too far last week), Arkansas # 22, GA #23, FL #24. Thought about squeezing in Vandy as well, but maybe wait for next week when they get to prove themselves against that top ten quality TN team.

And this is all due to the fact that the SEC and some other conferences (ACC) have learned how to game the system. The NCAA needs to make it clear that having a cupcake OOC to fatten up a team's won-lost record is not going to be rewarded with inflated RPI's and then they need to go about changing the way RPI's are calculated to achieve that result. Good teams in weak conferences should not be penalized as much because they have little or no control over their conference opponents strength, but everyone has a good deal of control over their OOC schedule. There's simply no excuse for conferences like the SEC, that are constantly proclaiming their excellence to play miserable OOC schedules and then be rewarded for it.

You forgot the rousing #20 Florida loss to GA at home where the teams were a combined 25 of 45 from the free throw line and 7 of 35 from three.
Of the 14 SEC teams playing tonight only 4 scored more than 66 points, while 6 failed to reach 60 points
