ANGEL McCOUGHTRY TO BE INDUCTED INTO KENTUCKY
HALL OF FAME
- McCoughtry will be inducted Thursday, recognized at Friday's Dream game -
ATLANTA, June 7, 2012 - Atlanta Dream guard/forward Angel McCoughtry will be inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame during a ceremony that will take place Thursday evening, June 7, at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Louisville, Ky. She will also be recognized for this achievement prior to Atlanta's game against San Antonio on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Philips Arena.McCoughtry starred at the University of Louisville from 2005-09, setting school career records for scoring (2.779 points), rebounding (1,261), steals (481) and blocked shots (162). She led the Cardinals to the 2009 NCAA Championship game before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft by the Dream.
Other members of the 2012 induction class are Lee Corso, Hugh Durham, Seth Hancock, Homer Rice, Rick Robey, Bobby Watson and Churchill Downs.
The Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes individuals and teams that have made significant contributions to sports and have achieved a high standard of athletic success representing the honored traditions of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Hall also supports Kosair Charities, which provides medical care for thousands of children throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
The Atlanta Dream are in their fifth season this summer at Philips Arena as part of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the world's longest-running women's professional sports league. The Dream are the defending two-time, back-to-back Eastern Conference Champion. The next home game is scheduled for June 8 at 7:30 p.m. against the San Antonio Silver Stars.
