Andre Jackson 3pt Specialist

Andre is a savvy player. He knows the right time to take 3pt shots, when the defense backs off him. Not a huge volume but efficient and opportunistic. That, and it's obvious he's really worked on his shot to make it respectable.
You nail it here, 916. He'll let it fly when he's wide open. We don't need him jacking up heat checks and thankfully that seems to have no place in his game. He is as pure a team player as there is. I love the guy.

He’s also the most fun guy to watch. He does so much, he has a unique style, and doesn’t play like everyone else. The skill level in basketball has never been higher but there are less quirky, unique players such as Jackson. Many guys play the same way…not him.
He is the most fun guy to watch. He plays the game in a truly unique way. I wouldn't even have a good comparison player, he is that out of the ordinary/extraordinary. And he is only going to get better on the defensive end.

I have been a big AJ fan all along, but he is really blowing up quickly this season. He is improving quickly and always works hard. Hard to imagine him not being a real monster next season.

To add to all the comments. Andre never seems to tire yet he sprints up and don the court more than any other player
Good observation, his conditioning is outstanding he’s still skying for balls and sprinting in transition late in the second half of these games.

Who was the last player we had that made this much of a leap freshman to sophomore year? Kid went from a question mark to option 1B on a really good team. Stretches where he’s the best player on the floor.

Are Sanogo, Cole, and Martin all batman? I don't get it. We have an obvious top 3 players.

Don't you think Jackson may be on the verge of surpassing Martin as the third most valuable player?

Martin is very solid but Jackson's impact on the game is significant.

There was that one play where he got the rebound and kicked it out, we score in transition; I look up and there he was in the air at the rim for a potential follow.

Love seeing stuff like this on opponent’s boards.

Like I said before... there's an argument to be made for either post-Rese injury. I wouldn't ever call someone a "batman" who isn't a potential scorer in crunch time. Rese can get you a bucket late... Jackson doesn't have that yet.

True, still a work in progress but I have seen Andre make some pretty impressive dunks this season.

Also, Chief has mentioned several times over the couple of years Andre is a student of the game, someone you can talk basketball with. He also respects the game and it’s history. So it’s nice to see the CT media picking up on it.

I do agree with Danny’s observations about Andre tightening up his game.
Yeah but his dunks are not him creating the offense it is normally an alley-oop or off a steal.

Where Chief comes from, a dunk finishes the offense rather than creates it

Even my AJ bashing buddy is warming up

Is your buddy a big fan of the XL Center?
We like both arenas, for different reasons. The XL Center is great for big games

On his recruiting visit, Andre and his mom went to Blaze Pizza. Chief just happened to be there by coincidence and noticed how much he liked to create his own pizza. Perhaps it’s the Italian in him?
He’s the type of kid who is always going to put the work in and ask questions. He is one of those elite few who gets better, the better players he plays with and against.
Danny is right though, as Chief always says to the young guns, you don’t get extra points for degree of difficulty. The true great ones make the game look simple. Keep the game simple and tight. A minimum requirement is high assist to turnover ratio and made fouls shots and open 3’s.
His rebounding and transition ability can really change games. The possibilities have no limits. Thank you.

When he has the open shot now, he doesn’t overthink it. He goes through the same process. I think that’s one of his biggest improvements.

My thought and I am no expert on shooting form but when I watched the highlights with Jackson's threes his form looks much improved - am I wrong?

Good question. Jackson is definitely more relax and he’s using the same mechanics each time. It’s really more of a set shot but they are giving him space and he’s been making it - due to his time in the gym that Chief preaches about.

His shot selection has been excellent and sometimes people forget that important element.

Good shot selection and team ball go hand in hand.

On point as always. Worth noting that he really helps our brand on social media as well. Always representing UConn to his large Slam following. I forget who the recruit was, maybe Diggins, was like “they have this kid Andre Jackson who was on the cover of slam, they’re building something” after he committed. Kids want to play with him.

Andre Jackson’s Instagram game is strong.

I think we established who our 3rd batman is tonight.

Jackson is dynamic and does a lot, A LOT of things really well. You can't be "the guy" until you can reliable score the rock inside and out when it matter. Jackson has neither.

He needs an offseason. He'll come back better than ever--count on it.

I still think Jackson is better than Tyrese at everything other than scoring but he certainly can't come close to taking a game over offensively like that at this point in his development. If we get anything close to that second half Tyrese going forward we'll be really tough to beat.

Fair take. Here's how I'd put it... both of them can take over a game. Andre with his defense/rebounding/passing and just overall dynamism. Rese can take over with scoring in a way Andre can't.

I think the difference for me is Rese at his worst isn't nearly as bad as Andre at his worst. Andre can completely destroy any semblance of team basketball when he starts making bad passes and turning it over. Rese can certainly be bad, but I think the team can still be okay even when he plays poorly. It's why coach can let Rese play through mistakes, but Andre needs to be benched pretty aggressively at times.

It's just an experience thing. What does Andre have--90 more CBB games under his belt than Andre?

I don't agree with this. Maybe earlier in his career, but when was the last time Andre "destroyed any semblance of team basketball?" He's had some turnovers for sure, but that description seems a little excessive for where Andre is right now as a player.

As for the debate, Tyrese probably has the edge right now, especially when he plays like he did last night. I'm just happy both guys are on our side.

I couldn't tell you when--I'm not keeping a log of times Andre screws up. The moments I'm thinking of are when we have momentum and a bad TO totally stalls us completely because he went for the hero play. I recall him being benched after a bad pass to Rese vs SJU (?) because of that. He threw the ball behind him on the fast break.

Or plays like when he made the terrible full-court pass to Sanogo yesterday. You have to know as a passer than throwing the ball at a straight angle (let alone a big) on the break isn't a good idea.

"any semblance of team basketball" probably isn't the best phrasing because he's probably TOO unselfish at times. But he can really stall momentum.

Andre plays a high-risk and high-reward kind of basketball. As you'd expect, sometimes the risks are too great and he sees the bench.

I'm not going to argue that he makes some bad passes from time to time and needs to clean that up. But does that stall momentum any more than Tyrese missing an easy layup does, which he probably does as often as Andre turns over the ball?

It has been quite a while since we saw that version of Jackson (VCU in late November?), so I'm not sure that's really his floor anymore. At this point, even with the questionable passes that he comes with, he is still key as the secondary ball handler and a versatile defender. I don't think even this board appreciates how vital he is to keeping the offense moving and getting a RJ a bit of a breather off the ball, because we have no one else that can consistently do that on the roster.
