Andre Jackson 3pt Specialist

I love watching andre. Such a unique talent

Has anyone noticed that whenever he contests a 3, the opponent makes the shot. Sometimes these are late or poor contests but many times they are good and it seems that guys still make them at an alarming rate in his face. Just bad luck?

Not to be a Debbie downer downer but teams are not ready that he would shoot it let alone from 3. Now that its on the scouting report, teams will will guard that and he will have a hard time getting off his shot since he releases it from his stomach. I cant imagine him getting that shot off come big east tourney time. Teams played off him so they would not become the next Uconn dunk poster.

We may slowly be getting our Robin.

For this team to go deep in to NCAAT ge needs to be Batman.

Besides improving his shot] mechanics during this season he is officially the back up PG and even runs the point sometimes with Cole in the game.

But that’s the point. They’ll guard him closer and it’ll be easier for him to blow by people with his athleticism. The 3 point shot is a tool to help the other areas of his game. He’ll never be an elite shooter but he can be an elite slasher assuming the defender doesn’t have a 10 foot cushion.

He'll definitely have his chances to drive with that shooting % rising. But right now, he has at least 1 play a game where he has a clear path to the basket. Defenders coming over to help, but still has the room to rise up and posterize someone. He just doesn't do it. Look at Russell Westbrook the other night...AJ is more athletic, but needs that explosiveness.

.-.
This kid is a nightmare for the other team. Yeah, he makes a few sloppy passes, but he always puts pressure on the defense, looks to involve his teammates, rebounds very well for a wing, and makes plays that must demoralize the other team. Two that stand out from last night are the steal along the sideline that led to the Akok dunk (great pass by Gaffney btw) and that drive to the hole where he gently laid it off the glass. The kid is special and he is blowing up right in front of us. Watching Jackson and Sanogo both become stars is a treat. Enjoy it.

As Dan Hurley said in pre-game interview.. Andre is still learning how to finish around the rim with different moves instead of just dunking (like he did in HS). Once he figures that out-And he is and will.. He'll be a really tough match-up for any guard/wing..

Enjoying watching him emerge as a major contributor on this team. A side benefit of his offensive emergence is that it actually looks like his teammates are trying to get him the ball more frequently. Can only help his confidence.

Shooting off the dribble and finishing moves are gonna have to be his off-season project. I'll try not to get my hopes too high, but the kids improvement curve is steep. If he keeps it up, he's an all big east caliber player in no time.

I don't think we're going to see advanced finishing from Jackson any time soon. He's so far from being adequate right now, hundreds of hours in the off-season are gonna be what elevates his game to that level.

Exactly.

Getting teams to respect his shot is the goal, not merely getting the 3 points.

If he can hit open 3's, then teams can't just sag off of him or play zone.

Are Sanogo, Cole, and Martin all batman? I don't get it. We have an obvious top 3 players.
Jackson is by far our most complete player. May not produce the most but one of our most efficient, effective, and talented guys. But it’s a great problem to have 4 best players… you’ll have 1 guy to bank on each game.
I’d also like others to pick up on his intensity on the court. Love to see the passion&energy he plays with (him chirping at the opponent). Everyone has their moments playing like this but Andre is 100% of the time and the dude has an insane motor. Takes no plays off.

He’s also the most fun guy to watch. He does so much, he has a unique style, and doesn’t play like everyone else. The skill level in basketball has never been higher but there are less quirky, unique players such as Jackson. Many guys play the same way…not him.

Cole and Sanogo are our most complete players. You can't call someone complete with as limited of a scoring package as Jackson has IMO.

Rese vs Martin... could make a case either way, but I give it to Martin before the injury simply because he's more of a threat to score in crunch time.

Rese vs. Martin....Fight Club.

At this stage Martin is a better scorer than Jackson but Jackson is better at everything else.

If you, as an opposing team's staff, aren't acknowledging the fact that Andre's 3pt shooting improvement is no fluke and that he needs to be defended, then you probably should be fired from your job as a game prep scout.

It's been obvious for the past 6-8 games. And I'm sure it's on the scouting report.

One of the biggest improvements we've made on offense this year is getting our 3pt shooters open for at least 2-3+ clean looks per game.

He's going to keep getting good looks the rest of the year, unless they overplay/overcommit to defending the 3. In which case, there's gonna be a lot of drives/layups/dunks.

That was always my comparison.
He even has the same ugly line drive floater that Marion used to use. The AJ floater and the Sanogo hook shot both should be used more sparingly.

Good article from Dom Amore on Andre. I had to chuckle reading this.

“Clyde Clymer, who was my basketball trainer since I was a kid, the person who taught me how to play, he always was big on Pete Maravich,” Jackson said. “He had such good shooting form. He used to teach me how to shoot like Pete Maravich. I was always a curious kid, I asked a lot questions.”

Have no idea what you are watching, but Jackson Jr is turning heads.

He is talking about Jackson finishing at the rim off the dribble. Right now it is not there and he just see him using that tear drop layup. It is not very efficient and he doesn't ever go to the rim strong off his drives. This will be the next area of improvement needed in his game.

Was gonna say, I feel infinitely more confident when the ball leaves his hand from beyond the 3 PT line than when he throws one of those line drive “floaters” at the basket. He’ll put it all together though. Just a bit tentative finishing right now.
Im no longer worried about his shooting from 3. Hes now enough of a threat that guys have to come out on him and he should start blowing by guys and exploding to the rim leaving his defender helpless to do anything. That lay in on the fastbreak was beautiful and he did it with ease. When he realizes he cannot be stopped going to the rim he`ll be in the discussion for cpoy.

I noticed Jackson make a pistol hand gesture toward the sky after a made shot last night. I wondered if that was a Pistol Pete reference.

True, still a work in progress but I have seen Andre make some pretty impressive dunks this season.

Also, Chief has mentioned several times over the couple of years Andre is a student of the game, someone you can talk basketball with. He also respects the game and it’s history. So it’s nice to see the CT media picking up on it.

I do agree with Danny’s observations about Andre tightening up his game.

The more consistent his outside shot is the better for his all around game and , just as important, for Adama’s game and any other post player that we have in.

Opposing coaches are going to have some nightmarish player matchups to game plan for.
