Andre Jackson 3pt Specialist

I'm not going to argue that he makes some bad passes from time to time and needs to clean that up. But does that stall momentum any more than Tyrese missing an easy layup does, which he probably does as often as Andre turns over the ball?

Well, no it doesn't technically speaking. You can defend a missed layup pretty easily. Mid-court passes that get intercepted results in layups for opponents constantly. It's obviously worth the risk with Andre; he needs that development. There are just times he can't be trusted to make the right play in a close game.

Also... Dre misses his fair share of those godawful floaters too. I cringe every time.

I think the argument I'd use against me is that Rese isn't exactly a low TO player. They're just different kinds of TOs. Seems to be a lot of bad dump off passes or live ball TOs at the wing.

It has been quite a while since we saw that version of Jackson (VCU in late November?), so I'm not sure that's really his floor anymore. At this point, even with the questionable passes that he comes with, he is still key as the secondary ball handler and a versatile defender. I don't think even this board appreciates how vital he is to keeping the offense moving and getting a RJ a bit of a breather off the ball, because we have no one else that can consistently do that on the roster.

I mean he's had 3.0 assists and 3.3 TO per game in the last month.

I think the TOs are worth it, but let's not pretend it still isn't a problem. He does need to work through these troubles in games if he's going to reach his ceiling though.

I trust him taking any 3 from now on. That is all
So long as he is open and standing still.
Still don't trust him handling the ball under any pressure/traffic. 3 horrendous turnovers last night.
Would also like up to improve his one on one defense. For all the disruption he causes, he still gets blown by a lot even if he is visibly better at moving his feet. Better teams will/should still be trying to go at him.

Still he's improved a lot since the covid break and has integrated himself into the half court offense. He is no longer looking like he's on his own channel. Goes for defense too. A really good job by him in a short time.

I think a lot of the blow-bys we see by our guards are by design. Hurley wants intense pressure on ballhandlers and shooters, even if it means we give up 2s. We have great shot-blockers at the 4 and 5, so the assumption is selling out to defend the 3 is okay because Akok/Whaley/Sanogo can erase enough attempts that it's worth it.

The thing that stands out about AJ's 3 point shooting is how open he's been when he takes them this year, especially of late.

The lesson is if we have good/great passing to the open man we make them at a high rate, even AJ who couldn't make anything last year.

Think how good the shooting could be next year with Sanogo's improved passing, DC's reputedly good passing out of the post, and better point guard play (hopefully), whoever it might be.

The TOs are definitely still an issue, I'm just saying even with those TOs, he's one of two folks on the team that can consistently keep the offense moving. The few times when both he and Cole are on the bench, it's literally four guys passing the ball around the perimeter for 20 seconds and then a contested shot or terrible pass into Sanogo in the post.

.-.
He was much more aggressive going to the basket at Butler. He had nothing to show for it as he failed to finish. But it is a good sign. As it adds attacking the rim to his game, we become more dangerous.

Jackson has become by far my favorite player to watch. The improvement is glaring. He's going to be even better next year. And the team-first nature of his game jumps out at you.

I loved Martin's second half last night. That stuff feels like fool's gold, though. There are nights when he's feeling it and everything is going to go in, but it's not the kind of thing you can rely on.
