so i caught under ice's name is printed "Andlig Ledare". i had to look it up in google translation and it means "Spiritual Leader"... in Swedish. pretty clever, whoever thought that up. i'm not sure if this was mentioned in another thread somewhere, but whatever mod came up with that, kudos for creativity...

I believe they came up with it after I offered the benefits of copious amounts of Aquavit before trying Lutefisk.

oh that's great ice. i don't even know what lutefisk is lol... i had to look it up - dried cod soaked in lye and then boiled? sounds more like a torture than a normal food that people eat! :) i'd probably have to drink lots of Aquavit too (btw i had to look that up too - apparently some kind of Norwegian liquor...)

Icebear: I keep meaning, but forgetting, to ask you: do you speak/write Swedish fluently?

I speak/write the utterly useless, anywhere but Denmark, language of Danish. While not as easily as with Norwegian (I once spent 5 minutes reading a Norwegian newspaper before realizing I was not reading Danish), I can generally understand Swedish texts--no chance when spoken though.

Especially useless since Scandinavians almost universally speak English. :)

If I'm even in the same room with lutefisk, I'd want copious amounts of something!

I can read somethings but my dad is fairly fluent in conversational Swedish, his parents both came from Sweden and his grandmother who only spoke Swedish lived with them.

Wine isn't going to do it Pinot. It must be a beverage much stronger than that.

how do we get those names?
one of the mods has to go and make the change. honestly, none of us suggested them to the mods - they came up with the names on their own - based on our personalities, jobs, locations, etc etc...

Icebear: Hvis jeg skriver pa dansk, kan du forstar det? Jeg elsker UConns kvindelige basketballhold!!!!

Milford: in the two+ years I lived in Denmark, I never once encountered any danishes, of any flavor. I did encounter lots of pickled herring with curry salad! Yummy!

I can't so much read it as make it out. I think you asked if I can read your written Dansk. And that you are a big UConn basketball fan,

So I was close?

I'll put it this way. Reading the complete Norse Sagas at the rate I can do that would take me 6 lifetimes. Of course, reading them in English will take one. They had those long dark night to practice their storytelling.
