Doesn’t matter. For other players, maybe Uly with Mexico or KdlF with Spain, perhaps. But Reyna’s as American as it gets. Both his parents played for USNT. It’d be great if GGG makes the correct move and calls him up in the next window, but there isn’t anything to worry about. Whether it’s a March debut or 2021 (and it won’t be that long) Gio’s an American and we’re lucky to have him.

I’m also not clear on if he is truly England eligible (Argentina and even Portugal are, relatively, bigger problems). There’s no birthright citizenship there and he’d had to’ve been a resident for 10 years from birth to qualify for citizenship. He wasn’t.

Citizenship rules don't matter. FIFA's rule on the subject:

Any player who refers . . . to assume a new nationality . . . shall be eligible to play for the new representative team only if he fulfils one of the following conditions:
a) He was born on the territory of the relevant association;
b) His biological mother or biological father was born on the territory of the relevant association;
c) His grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant association;
d) He has lived continuously for at least five years after reaching the age of 18 on the territory of the relevant association.


He's eligible to play for England.

And in the US, USMNT eligibility is based on the number of MLS kits and tickets a player sells, whoops, we're in trouble :rolleyes:

I've read Dortmond blocked the request to release him for U-23/Olympic qualifying due to the club's schedule, which is not that surprising as they have big plans for him.

Of course, one could also argue the USMNT U-23 team maybe better than the Senior team...

I think it’s an ok roster. Apparently olympics qualifying doesn’t count as a FIFA event so clubs don’t have to release players. And I imagine our top u23s are gonna just be with the full team.

I certainly agree it would’ve been awesome to see a stronger collection; I’d say our full-caliber u23 group would probably be a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully we qualify and get to see a team closer to that in Tokyo.
 
Some good news. Pulisic was man of the match for Chelsea scoring two goals.


Chris Richards made his first team debut for Bayern Munich (who has wrapped up the title).

CP coulda had a hat trick if not for bad luck, but he was the most dangerous player on the pitch which is incredibly impressive.

There's going to be a logjam at Chelsea next year with Ziyech and Werner coming in next year, and now possibly Havertz. Not sure where this leaves Abraham.
 
This morning on SiriusXM they were comparing Pulisic to Hazard. The main difference between the two is that Pulisic has a 6 yard box presence and Hazard really didn’t.

Plus Mason Mount. As a Gunners fan, Arsenal steals Pulisic from the Chelskis and he goes onto Premiership and global stardom. The USMNT fan in me doesn't want him anywhere near Emirates until they get their house in order.

Now we need the clubs at the junior level development compensation to keep pumping kids to Europe or at least MLS.
Whether Cannon makes it or not, glad he's taking the challenge
 
The spine of our midfield for the next 5-10 years now plays for big clubs in the top leagues.

Somewhere in this thread there are people who took issue with my claim (not you Palatine) that the former DA system by US Soccer was incredibly well run and was starting to yield the success that the USA always dreamed of.

We have evidence now with all these American players at top teams.

& yet, when US Soccer went broke because of Covid, they stopped funding the DA, the DA dissolved, MLS took it over, but the small clubs that were a part of the DA constellation (about 70 of them outside MLS) no longer receive support from US Soccer, and I know for a fact that the top coaches who were beneficiaries of that kind of support are no longer a part of the development system. I know UEFA A licensed coaches who could have coached pro clubs in Europe who are no longer part of the small club training circuit in the USA.

This is going to be the golden age of US Soccer, followed by a deep trough.
