>>In order to get an accurate assessment of teams heading into 2019, Athlon asked coaches in the AAC to talk anonymously about their opponents.

UConn

“If everything breaks the right way, they’re going to try and be a physical run team, but they have so many areas of concern."

"It’s a really tough job there.”

"He’s (Randy Edsall) really struggled to keep them going and our league is so much more talented than when he was here last. You feel for that guy."<<

I fearlessly predict these comments wont age well. That something that is easy to say in August on the eve of a new season armed with new players, new coaches and new attitude.

Same narrative over and over. UConn is the one school in the AAC that couldn't possibly recruit good football players. Too hard to get kids to go to the only school in the conference with a long term track record of putting guys in the NFL, great facilities and an actual national brand name. Impossible. No one could do it.

So it's a tough job, the league is strong and there are areas of concern. Coming off of last season, this is probably the most positive feedback we could hope for.

"It’s a really tough job there.”

"He’s (Randy Edsall) really struggled to keep them going and our league is so much more talented than when he was here last. You feel for that guy."

I just hate that narrative. It is a constant attempt to try to convince players and coaches that the likelihood of UConn being good is slim now or ever. However, this is often said by people at schools that have never done squat.

Yeah, you don’t really need to coach in the AAC to sniff this one out.

They are going to jam the ball into the line with two mediocre backs and a middling offensive line. The tight end and receivers aren’t even CAA quality. They might have the worst quarterbacks assembled in FBS.

The roster is a barren wasteland and they will hope to beat Wagner, UMass and catch someone sleeping to go 3-9. They are going to get dismantled by every team with a pulse.

Paying for my wedding betting against UConn this year. Should go well.

Eight straight losing seasons will get those kind of comments....

The way to respect is winning games.

It isn't a matter of respect. Its just the stupidity of the premise. There is a reason we suck and it isn't that "UConn is a tough job".

The stadium is 25 miles off campus, the best players in the state go to prep schools that don’t like the state U, there’s academic standards being enforced above the ncaa minimums, and your entire staff including the HC salary combined is less than the basketball team’s 4 coaches make.

Yeah, it’s a hell of a tough gig.

There are few players and there are half a dozen P5 schools who get them.

You kind of nailed it there. Its too truthful for me to give it a like. I'm sticking with kool aid in August and maybe that kool aid keeps flowing well into Sept.

Which is tougher....Temple or UConn? Temple has a better recruiting area....but that's about it. Why have they been able to crack the code?

I think Temple is a tougher job.,,,.UConn just made horrific coaching hires as opposed to Temple.

Whaler nailed it, and it is pretty scary, though our RBs, middling maybe, will be the strong suit. TE and WR is barren. Will we air it out? Those anonymous quotes are being kind.

Rod Carey’s base salary is approximately $800k more than our HC OC and DC combined
