Hello David 76. You're almost as old as I am.

No, I'm not proud of my Ansonia roots, but I'm certainly not ashamed of them either. They shaped who I am, I was raised a hick in a hick town, and now I'm a hick in a rural area of Oregon. But with more than 25,000 books sold, and dozens of technical articles, I'm not a stupid hick. Just a hick from Ansonia.

I read your posts, but I almost never post anything. Is that cheating? When I read the boneyard several times a day, do I then have a responsibility to post more than a few times a year?
Maybe you are taking Mark Twain's advice. I know a lot of posters, myself included, should remember this at times. "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

So how's the pizza in Oregon?

Not as good as the pizza in Conn. On the other hand, our microbrews are excellent, coffee is excellent, and, of course, the cannabis in Oregon is the best in the country.

No you are not. I too was born in Ansonia in 1948 and I also used to live in Waldport OR. My posts have been few like you, compared to the # of years I've been here in the Boneyard.

Wow, I, too, was born in Ansonia in 1948, I wonder if we went to school together. I left Ansonia in 1960

If memory serves, we used to play football (East Haven-Ansonia) but I remember Derby as the bigger rival in the late 60s. Both of you are my sister's age. We were pretty good then. We fell apart when Coach Crisafi would not let those with long hair play during my time.
Definitely not ashamed of EH. A lot of the best people I ever met came from there. But at times very frustrated with the Goombah politics.
Ironically, my mother's faily were the first Italians there

The Board does confession too, so if you rather do it here then in the local church you are always welcome.

Although I cannot remember the actual church, I am a registered minister and am able to hear confessions and offer the soul-cleansing act of penance.

I think I can also marry people.

The more Ansonia posts the more I want to read from him. And just as a PSA to all the lurkers, if you've got something to say, say it. Don't be a fraid of the dbags. If someone barks at you ignore 'em. We want to hear from you.

Funny about the long hair. In 1967 I qualified for the UCONN golf team but wasn't allowed to be on the team because John Toner who was golf coach at the time also had a rule about long hair. He couldn't understand that golf was a non contact sport.

I confess. I read and don't post. I begin to understand who you are, without in return giving you the ability to understand who I am. I absorb your bball knowledge and insight (or, in some cases, lack of insight) without giving you my insight (and I do have some, gathered after 50 years of playing and watching basketball). I am guilty of lack of social exchanges. As punishment, I will continue to live deep in the Oregon woods, far from most UConn fans.

I don't think East Haven played Ansonia as EH was in the Old Housy league and Ansonia always has been in the Naugy. Derby ,Shelton, and Seymour where all Valley teams that EH would have played annually.
Frank Crisafi has to be one of the greatest basketball coaches in Ct history.
I think they won like 70 games in a row during the 50's.
He could teach JB the right way to play a zone.
He wasn't a bad Football coach either

You are right. Those 3 valley teams and east to Branford. I lived about a block from Coach Crisafi. But he would not abide long hair.Eccluded a lot of talent in my day (69-72) Very good football coach and surprisingly great basketball coach (seeing so many of our kids topped out at 5' 9"
Do you remember our running back Mike Zito? Went to UCONN and in the annual Yale game, knocked Calvin Hill unconscious playing linebacker I think. In H.S., pound for pound & inch for inch, one of the most amazing backs.

Yes I do; didn't he get hit by a car in front of the Student Union or am I mis-remembering?

Humboldt/Mendocino might take umbrage with that assertion.
