I don’t know. If I had a chance for a normal year in college where people can function without quarantines or a mask and have fans in the seats for games that would be appealing. Why not live the college hoops dream for another year.

Two former high school teammates of mine played in Europe as well as my best friend's cousin. All thought it was a real grind. Not a ton of money. A lot of people didn't speak English, including teammates, and they had to move around quite a bit. On top of that, they miss their friends and family. It is only really good for the big stars and they always have their eyes on the door back to the NBA. In college, they are celebrities with their pick of women, easy classes and good food. (and many make a paycheck to boot)
I think this is spot on. For most, playing in Europe is a job. It's even tougher if you have a family. I have an acquaintance that spent a bit of time in the NBA then a bunch of time abroad. He doesn't seem to regret the time in Europe/Eurasia, but it wasn't fun.

He's still involved in basketball at a high level though, and I think all of his experiences contributed to that. So playing professionally around the world may not be as fun as college, but at some point it's time to get out there. That being said, I see nothing wrong with AG taking another year if that's what he wants. Especially if next year may be a bit more normal of a year. Or maybe he goes to a better academic school than Wichita (honestly, I know nothing about the school) and comes out with a strong graduate degree.

Based on Whaley and. Polley the pro opportunities don’t seem to be there
this year. So free room and board living on a college campus getting to play on a competitive team is a great place to bide your time. It beats getting a job , I’m surprised he didn’t stay at WSU unless the coach told him he wasn’t in their future plans ala , Adams and Carlton.
Maybe a warmer climate will benefit him.

When y’all suggest or think that a certain player can or should go play overseas or in Europe it tells me that y’all aren’t really knowledgeable on how playing overseas or in Europe actually works and what it entails. Y’all make it sound so easy when actually it’s quite the opposite.

Is there someplace in Arizona you would suggest?

i dunno ... Playing bigtime college basketball is a pretty cool thing. Of course, some would love to hang on as long as possible. Because like all kids/university students ... the eyeball is on the handful of guys you know best and maybe, overwhelmingly, the fruits of that college degree is not full of big NBA life; rather, it is the trainee at Enterprise Rental or Verizon.

I wish we saw the cool, veteran Gilbert when he was here.

I’m not sure why he’d play in college another year. It’s not like he’s going to grow 6 inches and get drafted. At the same time, it is a lot of fun being a college basketball player. Probably a lot more fun than playing pro in Europe.
What is a leap of presumption regarding SARS-2 next winter and prospect for a foreign hoopster in Europe or other Rand McNally locales? for $1,000. Sure hope so for the world, but pre-SARS-2 know quite well all overseas opportunities aren't exactly fun-filled days at the beach nor consistent with signed contracts.

says the guy who thinks Tyler Polley is Rashad Anderson. At least your player evaluations are consistent...ly awful

Highly rated in high school, successfully recruited by Kevin Ollie, undersized, career. 378 2-pt FG % ...perfect replacement for Akinjo. Plus, Arizona has a new Head Coach!

Now that's out of the way, I'll acknowledge that I was as excited by his highlight reels as any I've ever seen on the Boneyard, and do wish him the best.
