For discussion…seems reasonable other than Syracuse being considered elite.

UConn, IU, and Nova should all be in their own tier, and then Cuse, Sparty, UofL, and Arizona in one below that. National Championships define programs. Syracuse with 1 title should never be in the same conversation as us with 4 lol

Syracuse has no right to be in with any tier which states "Elite" sorry. I mean they are the Don Sutton of college basketball. Have rights to be in the hall, but only due to consistency in a long period of time. But hardly ever a threat for a title outside of one with one key player. Otherwise I guess it looks ok but has Arizona and Louisville really achieved much despite always having top recruits?

Blue Bloods I'm fine with.

Tier 1 Elite should be schools with 3 or more championships.

Tier 2 are schools with 2 championships. Maybe add one or two schools with one but a bunch of FF or if they had historically great teams.

Tier 3 is one championship plus multiple FF's.

Who cares how you divide up the rest.

I would agree with that but that tier should include Louisville with UConn leading off the tier. We get another title and we're in with Duke, UCLA, Kentucky, Carolina, and Kansas.
 
Gonzaga should def be tier 3, and UH is kind of weird where they were Tier 5 until the last 5ish years and now could justifiably be tier 3 or 4

Tier 2 isn't bad but Cuse definitely gets bumped to the end of the line there, and if not for their out of nowhere F4 run few yrs ago would likely get bumped to tier 3
 
I wish someone would define the term blue blood because people are all over the place on it. It originally was the equivalent of “old money“ in college basketball but it is tough to say that 1991 is “old money“ but 1999 is not.

(If Tate George holds onto that damn ball, I think we have another natty right then and there. I wonder if that would flip Calhoun and Krzyzewski on the all-time greats list.)
 
also, idk why, but the last line “respectable programs” just seems kind of offensive. It’s basically a participation trophy at that point lmao.

Imagine that in 1986 or 1987, you were able to go to the future year of 2022. You’d of course check in on one of the two most important technological advances: message boards and social media. You then see the tweet with UConn Huskies in the tier below the blue bloods. Would anyone ever possibly believe that UConn could have actually risen to that level? I honestly don’t think so. I guess I’m just trying to say thanks, Jim Calhoun.

People remember UNLV‘s beat down of Duke but forget about that they barely squeaked by Ball State.

I'd disagree vehemently but I doubt I will convince you otherwise and there's nothing gained.

I will say if UConn had beaten Duke in 89, UCLA in 95 and the Donyell missed FT's year (96?), UConn would have 3 more FF's for a total of 8. Eight FF's and a minimum of four championships puts UConn in real elite level. Also would extend UConn's FF history back one decade longer.
 
UConn and Villanova in their tier: sure.
Georgetown and St Johns in their tier: makes sense.

Nobody else from the Big East worth mentioning? Seton Hall or Marquette maybe as respectable programs?

EDIT: Just kidding. I'm blind. Marquette is there. I accept that. Carry on.

By definition, a facetious response would imply that the mention/discussion of the Helms trophy is of serious import and magnitude.

Obviously we know better.
 
Since the tournament expanded, Illinois has 6 sweet sixteens in 37 years, 3 E8, 2 FF, 0 titles.
Gonzaga has 12 S16, 5 E8, 2 FF, 0 titles.

If you want to say they should be on the same tier, fine, but Gonzaga should definitely not be below.

Miss me with final fours from the 40s and 50s when the NIT was the dominant tournament. It's actually embarrassing to have 50s final fours.
 
If UCLA is a blue blood than shouldn’t Indiana be in there too?

I think there’s a legit argument for UConn/Nova/Indiana/ to have their own tier, but nobody is gonna make a tier list with 3 schools in their own tier. For that reason I accept Syracuse and the others being in our tier, cause they’re clearly better than the next tier. Gonzaga and Baylor have arguments for tier 2 at this point.
