Duke ... Caveat.... this list comprises only players who have played since I really started to follow Duke WCBB in the latter 1990's. There were a few great players before then... but I never got to see them in action.

PG Lindsay Harding.
SG Alana Beard
SF Monique Currie
PF Iciss Tillis
C Chante Black*

PG/G/SF: Georgia Schweitzer
G: Alana Beard
G/F: Monique Currie
F: Chris Moreland
C: Alison Bales

The 1999 and 2004 seasons would be enough to turn the most benevolent Dukie's heart sour.

2004 was tough, but ameliorated by the fact we did so well in 2006. And then the 2006 National Championship game happened, which made us all forget about 1999 and 2004.

2007 was also tough.

the kinda cool thing about it is you can pick generally the 5 best players. Williams is a 5 now, but with Bales on the court, she'd be the 4. Same thing with Moore and Charles, and then someday if you add Bree Stewart, Maya could be the 3.

UConn:
Sue Bird
Diana Taurasi
Kelly Faris
Maya Moore
Tina Charles

For the ideal team, at some point you need glue, not another scorer and there's no one stickier than Kelly.

The offseason is already boring. It's time to play all-time starting lineup wars!

The rules are: there aren't really any. Just post what you think a school's all-time starting lineup should be, and discuss who you think comes out on top. Or just dicuss other people's submissions. What would be some of the best matchups, even if they weren't the two best teams?

You don't have to be strict with positions...but if you put five forwards on the floor, you kind of have to acknowledge it could be a problem.

I'll start with the two obvious- UConn and Tennessee.

UConn:

Sue Bird
Diana Taurasi
Maya Moore
Rebecca Lobo
Tina Charles

I'd replace Tina Charles with Kara Wolters. Selfishly, I'd like to see the original Twin Towers playing together one more time.

Oklahoma

Courtney Paris
Phylesha Whaley
Stacey Dales
La'Neishea Caufield
Danielle Robinson

It looks pretty clear that these are the 5. They are 5 of the top 6 scorers in school history with a huge gap down to #7. Small team, but that fits Coale's style.

LSU

Sylvia Fowles 2xAA
Seimone Augustus 3xAA 2xNPOY
Joyce Walker 2xAA
Marie Ferdinand 1xAA
Pokey Chatman 1xAA

Walker is obviously deserving of being in the starting 5, but her AA seasons were in 1983 and 84. If a more recent player is needed it would likely be Temeka Johnson who never made 1st team AA, but is in the top 10 in NCAA history in career assists.

Continuing with the Big 12 theme, Texas:

Kamie Ethridge
Jamie Carey (not an All-American but one of the toughest competitors ever)
Edwina Brown
Tiffany Jackson
Clarissa Davis

Where are our Rutgers friends with their lists?

Like your starting five but ...
Sue Bird - definitely has had a better pro career, but I might take JenR over her on college performance and bloody mindedness - she would run through a brick wall to get the win.
Rizzotti was awesome, but there's very little argument that she had a better college career. Sue averaged more points (11.7 to 11.1), more assists (5.0 to 4.7), less turnovers and was a much, much better shooter. The only real advantage for Rizzotti was defense.

Then, when you look at what their teams accomplished:
Rizzotti - 1 NC, 2 Final Fours
Bird: 2 NC, 3 Final Fours...and the one year UConn didn't make the FF, Bird was injured and the team was undefeated when she went down with the ACL.

Both were terrific, but Bird was flat out better.

Marie Ferdinand was one of my favorite players to watch. What a beautiful jumper she had.

Hard to leave Andrea Lloyd (three time All American, gold medalist, member of the Basketball Hall of Fame) off of the starting five.

I also have to throw in Fran Harris and Annette Smith somewhere.

Well considering I have only been a fan since Cappie's junior year.....mine will have to be based on the players I have seen since then.

Rutgers:

Guards:
Epiphanny Prince
Cappie Pondexter
Chelsea Newton
Essence Carson
Kia Vaughn/ Monique Oliver(that's how much I like Monique)

Raw numbers - OK, but you have to look at the support players and I would take Bird's teams over JR's teams in terms of supporting talent - I think without injuries you could argue that 2000,2001,and 2002 were the best three teams assembled at Uconn - so you would expect better records and better assist numbers for Sue.
I grant the scoring, but in terms of intangables I would go with JR by a whisker, and on this team the scoring is not going to be a problem!

Impossible to make that judgment Sue may well have made those players better by her skills at the point. Sue, also, scored at will when she needed to, Jen. Less so.

How about Sue Wicks? Gotta have Tasha Pointer on your second team along with Shawnetta Stewart. I would put Tammy Sutton-Brown on your first team over Kia Vaughn, just MHO.

Like I said...I never got to see Wicks, Pointer, Stewart, or Sutton-Brown play in a RU uniform so I couldn't say.
