I mean Connecticut high school, not necessarily UConn. When I last lived in Connecticut, high schools did not have girls' teams. Who are the best players to come out of Connecticut? I have to think that Nykesha is at or near the top of the list. We have Heather and had Maria, and St. John's has about 3 Connecticut players.

By the way, I ran into Maria as she was carrying a baby at the UConn v. Prairie View game in Bridgeport. I recognized her just as I was walking by and couldn't refrain from smiling. She smiled back but was probably wondering who the weird guy was. She looked great.

I think Maria had her kid at the Fairfield game as well.

Jen Rizzotti was from New Fairfield. Bria Holmes is highly regarded, obviously. Lobo was from Southwick, Mass, so that's basically CT. :)

1st team: Jen Rizzotti, Nadine Domond, Nykesha Sales, Tracy Lis, Tracy Claxton
2nd team: Maria Conlon, Rita Williams, the SJU guard

The one time I ran into Geno socially (at a fund-raiser), he was raving about Nadine Domond. She was a female Bobby Hurley (at the time, that was as good as you could get at PG). He thought he was coming to UConn. Somehow she ended up in Iowa, abandoned by CVS. The new coach tried to make a 2-guard out of Bobby Hurley. I never was a big fan of CVS and what she did to Domond was a big reason. Talk about The Road Not Taken.

Abandoned? A little harsh by any stretch. Coach Stringer took another job. Ms Domond went on to have a very nice career at Iowa. Certainly no bitterness on her part toward Coach Stringer when Stringer refused to take any Iowa players with her to Rutgers.

Per the media guide, here are all the UConn letter winners from CT:

Connecticut
Davis, Wendy Milford, Conn.

I think the Media Guide is wrong again... its data seems to be slowly deteriorating. I believe Wendy was from Penn. There *was* a player from Milford (wanna say Kathy Curley, or something like that, IIRC that was in the pre-Geno days). Someone have an older version of the guide to verify?

The 2004-05 media guide states that Wendy Davis was from Guilford, not Milford...but still a Nutmegger.

Hopefully at halftime, so she didn't miss any game action. :)

Did they count the attendance before or after the birth?
Maria was part of the halftime ceremony honoring the 2002 team and also led the Pledge of Allegiance.

We were poking fun at your wording choice: She HAD the baby at the game. :)

I'd like to nominate Krista Rappahahn from Stanford to the list. Very decorated high school player out of Norwich Free Academy. I admit her first three years on the Farm were unspectacular, but as a senior, she was huge from the outside. She had 91 threes on the season at a 43.8% clip and played tough defense. One of the best sharp-shooters for Stanford.

Some missing names-

Amanda Pape (may still hold the all-time state 3 pt record)
Shamika Jackson (was recruited by UConn, ended up up at BC)
there are others, need to ponder a bit
