I am so sick of SC coach/players saying they should/would have won it all last year. It’s RIDICULOUS. It’s called March Madness for a reason, anything came happen!!! Like come on, I get it, it sucks but they need to get that out of their head. As Geno said you don’t win a national championship just because you were ranked #1. SC coach put it in their heads they would have won and now they dwell on it..oh well!
Also Oregon seemed destined to win that one....

- SC was destined to win it all last year

- Blames herself for blowing the UConn game

- Lots of other stuff

Good grief. On the eve of the NCAA men's and women's tournaments, the Players Tribune has no better use of its space than this caliber of immature drivel?

Not gonna bother picking over her nonsense point by point, but if I wanted to hear 19-year-olds blathering nonsensically with no filter, I'd start watching reality TV or hanging out at the freshman dorms at UT.

So what should she say? That's her belief so be it. My HS team should/would have won our county championship if not for the snow storm that cancelled the event, I still tell folks that to this day and that happened some 30 yrs ago lol

I mean what immature nonsense are you talking about? she thanked her old teammates, took ownership of having two bad games, and said they would have won the tournament if not for cancellation, and I would say South Carolina looked like one of the favorites to do so last season, she sounds like a mature young women who is a solid leader for her team.

HS is a little different lol. I just think it’s ridiculous to say you were going to win and the whole attitude around it. When there were/are so many good teams in college basketball. That’s kind of an intense statement to put out...

I commend you for your generous spin, and if Ms. Boston has any sense she'll write you immediately to say thank you and you're hir... oh wait, I mean THANK YOU AND YOU'RE HIRED!!!!!!

And sorry, based on this piece she's far from a "solid leader". A solid player, yes. But even SC fans would acknowledge that's the problem with this year's team -- no quality leadership to fill the void left by Harris. A true leader doesn't wallow in self-pity over her individual performance from months ago (including against (cough) Temple), to the point where, by her own admission, her own teammates have to beg her to stop sulking over it. As I said, immature. Not to mention how she continues to dwell on last season and parrots her own coach's entitlement attitude ("it was all set up for us") a full 12 months after the fact. Those are not the signs of a leader.

If this is their "solid leader" then no wonder they've lost 4 games despite being the consensus preseason number one team and despite having such a loaded roster, as she goes to great pains to boast over.

Is that really different then saying I expect to win championships? Or that I want to win 4 championships in 4 years?

That could also come across as passion and someone who doesn’t like to lose, which she mentioned in the article.

So how do you feel when recruits claim that they’re gonna win multiple championships or make opposing teams “feel” them before they even play a game of college basketball?

I never questioned either of those qualities, but neither of them are indicative of maturity or leadership.

Saying I want to win vs we should have won is VERY different in my opinion..And if you don’t agree THATS fine. But yeah I’m sorry you don’t get to win something just because you end up #1 in the rankings, that’s honestly some warped thinking...if the tournament gets cancelled now I don’t see UCONN players/coaches whining they were going to win it all, they “had a feeling” but again can’t guess the future same way SC can’t/shouldn’t.

Stewie said it once then went out and did it. She didn't continue, just went out and worked hard to achieve it. When Stewie won her 1st WNBA title, they asked Geno if he was surprised. He said no, he knew she would figure it out.

Summary of thread:

Adult posters make declarative statements that Oregon would have won the 2020 NCAAT - most have been adults for years, and have never played college basketball in their entire lives.

golf clap golf clap polite applause golf clap polite applause golf clap

Aliyah Boston makes declarative statement that South Carolina would have won the 2020 NCAAT - she is a teenager student-athlete who is in college and actually plays college basketball.

It is what is. If you would have replaced Boston with Paige or another UConn player in that article the negative feedback would have been positive I am sure. I am glad some see the article for what it really is. It is from her point of view.

I don’t recall anyone on this board having issues when a freshman Christyn Williams declared the team was “coming for that national championship, guaranteed” at Geno’s golf fundraiser.

You don’t see a difference between a play predicting a championship in the future versus saying they would have won a championship in the past? One is confidence or hubris. The other is somewhat delusional and disrespectful.

Hey, the article is fine. As someone pointed out, it’s pretty typical for this sorry of thing. But it’s not above criticism. South Carolina has been criticized for many quarters for its incessant talk about “winning” last year’s championship. No other team has done that. The criticism is fair and, frankly, entirely to be expected.

Some posters are upset that Boston didn’t pick UConn, it shows just about anytime her name or the South Carolina program is brought up.
Yeah the name-calling and sneering at a kid who, in the manner of young adults, speaks with only a mild filter, is rather appalling. What to think of an adult that needs to rip up a kid because he disagrees with her or to call her names because she doesn’t fit his definition of “mature”? I have my opinion on that but as I’ve noted in the past, it’s OK to have an unspoken opinion.

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt" ~variously attributed to Abe Lincoln, Mark Twain, and Maurice Switzer
