Alec Millender commits to UConn

So what’s a guy like him thinking future-wise? Play a few years in Europe then look at coaching?

I was thinking I could see this kod surprising some people. If he can bang 3s at the right time, might just find some non-cupcake minutes here or there
It's hard to project anyone cracking our top 9 in a meaningful sense, but a stable ball handler with a shot like that can be hard to keep off the floor in certain matchups. He'd need to follow in Joeys footsteps as someone who the staff added purley for depth, but ends up being better than expected. Obviously that kind of guy is rare, but we've seen this prototype accomplish this for us very recently.

It's really a fantastic add.

Has a nice shot but doesn't seem much of an athlete. Good practice player. I doubt he sees any floor time. Too bad he wasn't a sophomore as maybe he could develop into a bench piece. Oh well he will get paid nice to sit. It would be nice if we could get a backup young center and young PG with out last 2 recruits.
Anyone who shoots 3s (even just wide open ones) at well over 40% will find a few minutes even if in special circumstances only - hard to tell if he has a quick enough release to make other than wide open shots but seems to

He is a bench practice player. We already have shooters. This guy played super low division 1 isn't that athletic. Where is he getting minutes? Playing low division 1 and going up to big east is quite a huge jump. I will be surprised if he averages any meaningful minutes but could be wrong. He is a Sr. so maybe he has some skills that could see the floor in limited minutes when we need to make a 3.

If the House Settlement is approved by a judge, and If they sign a contract with UConn to do so at a negotiated rate.
So if there's about $6 million in revenue sharing allocated for men's basketball at UConn then do all the players on the team get the same amount or does everyone have to negotiate their own deal? If it's the latter then no wonder why everyone is hiring a GM. Tom is going to have his hands full.

Welcome to the UConn, Alec.

We're a hard sell right now and he's a baller who will competitivly practice and is an insurance policy if on of our lead combo guards goes down for some period of time. But, and it's a big but, will he be able to handle BE pressure D and be able to to keep bigger and stronger players from driving right by him? If not, he's not going to see the floor even if he is able to shoot it from deep at a solid clip. He looks pretty small and slight compared to who he has to face against UConn's competition once they get past the early season tune-up schedule.

I was hoping for a bigger and athletic 2/3 combo who could come in to lock down a 2G or wing that is going off, and can attack the basket even if he's not an outside threat. Maybe they're still in the market for that and that 3rd elusive big. Having an emergency 1 is always a good idea since PGs are hard to get and teach in the event someone goes down or your two lead guards pick up 2 fouls in the first half or 4 in the second where you need to steal a few minutes. The kid can shoot so if they need a few Joey Cal minutes he can play the 2 on offense and guard the 1 on D playing next to our new big starting 1.

Nope, you ain't got anyone that shoots his percentage on 3s, Lorenzo Ball comes closest. You have to go back to Joey C (14 mpg and 44% ) to find someone that has shot as high a percentage as this guy, and that is what they were looking for with this guy - a Joey C. He'll get his couple minutes a game but 20 seconds is all you need if he goes in to shoot a tying 3 to put a game in OVT. In the age of NIL, they don't recruit practice players, there are plenty of walk-ons available for that.

How is this guy going to get minutes when we have Ball, Karaban and Mullins and they are all proven shooters? That isn't taking into consideration Demary and Smith who can shoot and play PG. We have Stewart, the Ross brothers and Furphy. I'm sure he is a nice kid but seriously you think he will get any serious minutes on this team with all the mouths we have to feed as is? Why do you think this guy is more than a practice player? He played at a very low level so can't take his shooting seriously that it will translate at this level. You remember Scottie Harrelson right and he was a higher rated player? This is the 13th player on the bench.

Looks like he has speed and deadeye shooting. Comes from Boat's hometown. I'm loving the up tempo and shooting ability when he comes in. Smart kid so ability to pick up the offense schemes. When he does get in he looks pretty exciting. Excellent addition for wearing down opponents and quick transition points.

Quite sure he would be surprised as well

Please stop with the Joey C comparisons. The only thing the same about these two bench players is their three point percentage.

Joey was 6'3". A regular and flashy performer, he could get his shot off quickly vs. anyone, shoot on the move and finish. He played 14.5 mpg for us and was used regularly in BE and NCAA play.

The 6'1" Alec appears as a low minute insurance policy with a few benefits should we need to make a claim. Make no mistake, the kid is a long range bomber, taking 3.9/game vs. 1.6 twos. He does show some PG skills running the team and put up 3.7 assists. Low athleticism, he may not blow by anyone at this level but appears to have a strong handle with both hands.

This is probably true based on the fact that bench players like this rarely get meaningful minutes anywhere. But im guessing most of our knowledge of this kid comes from that 5 minute video. We aren't in a position as fans who have never heard of him to critique his whole game as usless.

Where is the updated depth chart? I can't keep track of mid-major bench warmers flying in these past few weeks.

Some of you really suck. Trashing him before he has played one second says more about you, than him.

It's idiotic and just shows, I'm sorry, how clueless and toxic some people on this board continue to be. This guy is EXACTLY what our staff wanted. The kid has been more or less a four-year starter in college basketball, can shoot it, be an insurance policy, and with his academic credentials, is someone who should be able to understand who we are and what we do. You all wax poetic about our staff, but then trash a player they bring in?
