Alec Millender, Built for Storrs

I was really impressed with him in the exhibition. Calm. Steady veteran leadership when he's on the court. A great find by the staff. He gets a chance to play for a big time program and earn himself a grad degree in the process. win/win for everybody.

This is why the portal works - while freshman get nervous in their first game, these experienced players are rocks...steady, plays within the system, and gets the job done.

Already like him more than Mahaney for this team.
 
Wow, how refreshing. With Gen Z being trashed from all angles for their attitude and work ethic and selfishness, this kid is a breath of fresh air. He will help us this year in some tangible way. He’s already helping with a lot of intangibles.
 
Most games he probably won’t have a huge impact, but whether by injury or foul trouble, there will definitely be games this year where he plays a key role and we are incredibly happy to have the kind of PG depth that we have this year. Love that the staff saw a big weakness on last year’s squad and did such a great job to address both the top-end talent and depth at the PG position.

He has a formula to project next year's 3pt% (career % and attempts, per possession rate, probably ft%) and he took 90th percentile of D1 and above. Didn't include freshman since he can't project them.

Same here, listened on WTIC to UConn basketball games as a kid/teen. That team launched my Husky fandom with Custick and Chapman, Wilson and especially Al Weston… from Cromwell I believe… who at 5 foot 10 would out jump 6’7” forwards during jump balls. Best leaper I’ve ever seen in a Husky uniform. I believe Jimmy Foster was a transfer who Dee Rowe knew?

George Ehrlic on a school night on the transistor under the pillow of bedtime was early. My brother played against Cromwell and Al Weston (scrimmage at Maloney) when I was 12 or so and saw him play in the Maloney gym Al was special, unlimited range and quickness. Jimmy Foster was a special player as transfer and made this team really good. If I remember correctly they beat Hofstra Flying Dutchmen before they were beaten by a very good Johnnies team in the tourney?

The team that beat Hofstra in 1976 lost to Rutgers in Greensboro in the Sweet Sixteen. I believe that Rutgers team was undefeated prior to losing in the Final Four Semis. That 76 UConn team had Tony Hanson, Joe Whelton, Randy Lavigne, John Thomas, Jeff Carr, and Abro as well as Al Weston. Darn good team.

Good call. Rutgers was undefeated with Sellers, Jordan, Dabney, Copeland, Bailey very good team although I think they were beaten pretty easily vs next team up I will have to look it up.

78-79 Cornys frosh year was a solid team saw them win the ECAC at PCC over BC and then Sly Williams. If Abro was still healthy they would’ve been real good from what I remember the knee made him a shell of himself only averaged about 6 and 7 or something. They gave the Cuse a game in the tourney but lost in a fairly high scoring game. After winning the trophy at PCC we were drinking some champagne in the streets on the way to the Foxy Lady ran into John Toner he took a swig of the Martini & Rossi true story!

Grew up in East Brunswick, was crushed when RU got destroyed by Michigan in the semis, and to add insult to injury, by UCLA in the 3rd place game. Only time 2 undefeated teams in Final Four.

Pretty sure I read somewhere it looks at career percentage in addition to attempts and FT% in some formula.

Jimmy Foster was one of my favorites during that timeframe. He was a transfer from Becker College in Worchester. He had a nice spin move as I recall. He played a few years in the ABA.

At my first full time job, John Thomas interviewed for an accounting position I believe. We joked that he would be great on our adult recreational league team. But he never took the job.
