Albany game thread

Collier has incredible balance and body control when banking in the contested 5-8-footer. Not an easy shot at all, but she shoots probably 80% on them.

My goodness. Pheese has missed 4 in a row!

Baskets in the Paint at the half

Albany 6 (4-2)
UConn 17 (10-7)

Yes! But what is great about her is she does not seem to be at all bothered by that. She simply continues to go up for the next shot.

When Albany doesn't turn the ball over, they make shots. 41% is good against UConn.

They can't play Butler and Dangerfield at the same time.

It has nothing to do with Dangerfield. Butler, as usual, is the problem. Is she a nice kid? Sure. But can she play at anywhere near a UCONN level? No. There are 100 D1 posts in the country that are better.

Got that right...

Both the Albany and the UConn player moved inside the arc area before the 2nd FT was made. Thus, the 2nd chance FT was negated.
Yes. What was interesting was that Lou almost beat them to it.

Crystal just registered her 100th assist of the season, making her the fifth Husky to reach that plateau this year! (Lou became the fourth when she passed the 100-assist mark earlier in this game.)

Great. Get it out of the way.

This is just the kind of game that is really hard for Natalie - no true post players on Albany but a lot of decent shooters with quickness - giver her a Coates or a Brown to bang against and she is much more comfortable.
And with the pressure/trapping defense Geno is experimenting with, there is a lot of open floor and not a lot of good boxing out

Rebecca and Andy trying to make a "Lobo" pun while discussing New Mexico State's upcoming game…but the Lobos are UNM; NMSU's team is the Aggies…

There was a certain crispness lacking in the 1st half. Like to see a strong 3rd qtr, then get the bench in.

Today, on offense Butler is not moving and in most cases she's setting up behind the Albany player. She's not playing Aggressive in the low post and making herself available to receive passes. She should be able to dominate in the low post and get open looks for layups due to her size advantage.

A few 1st half observations. As others have said, Albany is seriously underseeded. I thought we started out by playing a million miles an hour. Not unusual for the first time back on the court in the tourney after the layoff. Both of Saniya's fouls were questionable. Funny too because they let SO much contact go uncalled. Nat comes in and tries too hard. I think she will be fine when she settles down.
