AK is back - are we not done with Portal ?

We need two more players. One a legit 6’8 or better, and a big defensive minded guard. Time to start playing waves of players to press and trap more. Love the offense but need a few easy buckets here and there. No need to play guys 35 minutes, keep them fresh. Good insurance if J. Stew and Ross don’t make the leap we all hope for.

I'm pretty sure that there are still 1,100 or so names in the portal. Finding an emergency five, an emergency one and another body or two at two/three or three/four so we can have quality practices wont be impossible.

There will be some kids willing to take a very small role here to be part of this team (and be coached by this staff) without needing to see the floor very much in games. We only need a few of them.

My newest backup big interest, Malcolm Wilson of Queens (NC).

Remember him from Georgetown? He landed at Queens and finished last season as the Big South Defensive Player of the Year, finishing the season averaging 5.2p, 5.5r, 3.3b(!!!) per game in just 22 minutes per game. 7'0 215.

Proven at the mid-major level and I'm sure he'll be hungry to get another NIL check in the Big East, even if his PT is modest, at best.
I know one of the coaches from Queens, I should ask him about Wilson lol. Queens University of Charlotte, not to be confused with Queens College. They were division 2 until very recently, they were legit at that level.

Edit: I’m not even sure he has eligibility, 6 years of college, maybe he got some medical redshirts

I wouldn't group Jaylin Stewart in the same bucket with Ross. I have way more confidence in Stewart than Ross as we saw Stew step up for us at the end of year. He does have to become more consistent. I hope Ross can find a shot but I can't see where he will be getting any minutes on next year's team unless he really improves. He didn't show anything to me this past year and his minutes at the end of the year unfortunately reflected that. I would love to be proven wrong about Ross though.

We need 2 more quality players for hurley practice sessions. Can’t worry if it upsets Ross. Ross will need to earn his minutes and i think he will improve dramatically. The roster is high quality. 1-2 more key portal guys and would be championship caliber.

We need a 4/5 rim protector, and though I have never heard of him, I looked on YT, and it seems like the perfect fit since Alex committed. I agree with your last paragraph.
I could not find many basketball videos on him. However, I found this. Yes, please.

It would be nice but The transfer big doesn’t need the ability to play the 4 anymore since Alex will be getting 30mpg and Stew will get the other 10mpg.

We do need a 3rd string C behind Reed and Reibe tho. Reed is prone to foul trouble and Reibe is a frosh. A guy like Singare would be great.

That would bring us to 11. Finally I’d like a 3rd string PG since we only have 2 on the roster and it’s onto #7.
Eh, maybe. If the player has another year of eligibility, it would be a plus. Positional flexibility is always good, and this roster isn't as strong/tough as I'd like.

Ideally we'll add another 3rd string PG and 3rd string C. But we're probably a few weeks away from hearing names there, right now guys committing still have dreams of minutes. And we have 0 minutes available
This is correct. We're in a good spot to wait for things to shake out before we pick up two more insurance policies, and have turned most of our immediate attention to the 2026 haul.

Yeah I heard the interview with that religious nut he did. LOL! I know he is just trying to get a better idea of his draft stock. Either way it would be nice to have a 3rd PG as both Demary and Smith could be gone after this upcoming year.

Hurley needs to think about injuries in 2 spots. Center and the #4. We have enough at point and #2.

The Boneyard reaction to those "play only in an emergency" commitments should be entertaining. We are talking about a Singare replacement and a live body to play point if there is no viable alternative (a replacement for the oft-injured Nowell we actually had, not the one we thought we had).

absolutely. pick up players for additional depth who are well above the talent level of a walk on but come here understanding that they may not play unless of severe foul trouble or injury. It would be foolish to only have 11 players on scholarship

pretty hard to get players who have no shot at playing
That is why we are waiting for players who want prime minutes to commit and then will pick up players who don't mind riding the pine and winning a national championship. You never know we might look at some Europeans who wouldn't mind taking a year developing under Hurley. Still some moving parts on the roster for sure.

I think Papa Kante would be a good portal add as a backup 5. Big, talented kid who had a mediocre freshman year for an unserious program. He was solid at South Kent.

It strikes me that the three additional players we want are the exact three players we lost to the portal -- Singare, Abraham and Nowell. If you ask, what are the chances we can get three replacements with equal or greater ability, I would say that the chances are good, certainly in terms of game experience. It will be a trade of players seeking to establish themselves at any level for players who know their abilities and limitations and are content to play secondary roles at the highest level.

Can’t help but think Singare would not have been better off staying here.

He’ll no doubt play more at High Point, but I can’t see him suddenly playing 20-25 minutes a night. He seems like a reserve wherever he might go.
