Let me say right off the bat that A'ja Wison is having a very good Olympic's. However it has gotten a bit too much with all the hype she is getting.Watching the 3 games that's all they talk about..Yes she's scoring a lot albeit from passes that leave her with layups a good portion of the time. But she has not played defense well at all.Time after time the player she's guarding beats her to the basket not to mention the horrendous fouls she's committed on players shooting jump shots.Stewie carried the team in the 2nd quarter while scoring 14 points against France but who do they interview at halftime..A'ja. Maybe it's because Kara's broadcast partner has gone overboard in praising Wilson..he talks like she is the best player in the world and she is not..With all the praise she is getting instead of a statue they might change South Carolina to Wilsonville. Don't get me wrong I hope she plays well for the U.S. but whether she does or not the U.S. should still win the gold.

I've watched all three games, and this statement is not even close to accurate. The commentators have done plenty of talking up of Sue, D, and Stewie. Tina Charles was showered with praise for her offensive outburst against France. I could go on.

Sheesh people. Can we not set aside our petty jealousies for a just a couple weeks while the Olympics are ongoing?

All I will say is who played 38 minutes against France? It seems to anyone with half a brain that Dawn Staley's MVP is the player she doen't take out of the game.

There's a lot that could be said about this, but for now I'll just point out that Stewie's excessive minutes are not at all a good thing for the team, and it's more a reflection of the lack of good options off the bench at the wing position.

Dawn has Tina and Sylvia who can split minutes with A'ja (and Griner). With all due respect, the options for relieving Stewie at the wing are nowhere near the same caliber.

She’d be hard pressed to find someone near or the same as the great Stewie! She is different.

Not the point.

In pool play, as a gold medal favorite, one of the main goals is (or should be) to manage the stars' minutes so they're adequately rested for the medal rounds. If we had the Maya, EDD and Angel of 2016, there is no way in hell that anyone at the 3 would or should be logging 38 minutes in a pool play game.

Point taken.

A'ja has been great, got some shots to fall that should not have, scored off balance, made a shot when we absolutely had to have one. The chemistry between Stewie and A'ja is absolutely there and they seem to enjoy playing together. A'ja is getting 1 on 1 coverage for a change because of the great players around her. Other than Stewart, she is probably the best "4" in the world and is benefitting from it. We are all on the same team here. I would be willing to bet not one of the players on the team care one iota about who is getting the points or the coverage. Stewart has been outstanding as well. The two of them are going to be the anchors of USA basketball for the near future. Let's celebrate that. I'm hoping we have a lot of happy Huskies and Gamecocks when this tournament is over. #OneTeam #USA

Let's go A'ja.

For what it's worth I think there is plenty of hype to go around. The more Women's Basketball Hype the better. See the perspectives in this article:

As a UCONN women's basketball fan and a Women's Basketball Fan -- I say Go A'ja! I am very proud of you and the rest of Team USA!

She is in fact one of the best players in the world and so far in pool play she's acted like it. I don't see how she's been over hyped at all, she's been one of best players in tournament so far and I'm not so sure if we win all 3 of our games without her.

If Tina keeps nailing threes, Dawn can play her at the 3.

Just kidding, of course. I got a kick out of seeing Swin, Tina, and Kiah shooting threes.

Personally, I think Dawn gave up a bit to quick on Pheesa and maybe to a lesser extent Atkins. The are top level WNBA players. They just had rough minutes early in the exhibition process and Dawn has no wiggle room. Win or Die.

I agree if EDD was healthy teams wouldn't be playing close games with the USA. I said in another thread EDD, Stewie, and A'ja would have gotten the majority of the minutes. They all can handle, run the floor, and better perimeter defenders. Plus you have to defend all 3 of them.

Hard to agree or disagree without Phee getting any play time. Based on what I’ve seen, if you put Stewie at the 4 and Phee at the 3 and ANY of the bigs at the one with Sue and Diana, the team would be at least as successful and become a much better defensive team. I think Aja is great, but neither her nor Griner nor Charles’ defense has been great. They are so deep with bigs, they could be subbing regularly.

NBC commentary has been described as monotonous vomit, at times, for these Olympic games.

Say what you want, but tonight is the first of three real games. Payback to Australia.
