2026 Recruiting: Adolph "Junior" County

Thicker, though. Which solves a lot of Darius' issues. I don't think County is quite as wired to score and not as creative a handle as Darius, though. But he's a much better defender.

I'd say more in control and intentional also but without the quickness of Adams.

Better built than Adams but still needs to gain strength. They're both shooting guards with similar height who could possibly transition to be big point guards. Neither is particularly quick and they both play below the rim.

I'm not too high on either of them but it seems the staff is.

I talked to Darius after the McD AA game a little - said you seem like a silky smooth guard who would be called "crafty" by the media - is that your game and he said 'bet, you got me'.

County is much less that type and is built with more strength. Not sure I'd say either is "a shooting guard" more like CG with sneaky quickness but can appear a little slow motion if you expect Bazz/Boat/Kemba/Newton style of deliberate play.

Kinda where I’m at. Kid has skills and decent size, but nothing pops when you watch him, just his shooting form looks promising.

Maybe he’s a bulldog defensively? We do need that.

Seems like a lot of updates for 2026 are trickling in. Seen some expanded writing on some, other stuck with simple fact line. ESPN rosters have removed drafter players now, but not yet updated the roster which is usually ~Sept.

Thanks for actual info on the kid. Have we ever had a player from Utah? I think maybe one but I can't remember.
Last one I remember we recruited was Tyrese Samuels from wasatch academy but he went to Hall.

The guys from 247Sports call him a two guard. Jamie Shaw of On3 keeps calling him a "lead guard". So maybe he's kind of a combo guard?
Not sure he’s ever been the main ball handler on any team yet, but I do think he can put it on the floor with confidence. Combo is probably more accurate at this point imo.

My instincts are telling me he’s the most likely guy to be our first commit this class.

We're getting close to September when recruits can take official visits and coaches can make in-home visits to recruits. So the recruiting picture will start getting clearer. On3/Rivals is reporting what they are hearing from sources.

4-star PG Junior County

Junior County had an up-and-down summer playing on Nike’s EYBL Circuit. The 6-foot-5 ball-in-hand guard averaged 12.3 points and 3.4 assists while shooting 41.0 percent from the field and 30.0 percent from three in league play. County’s composed nature helped maintain his ranking at No. 60 in Rivals’ most recent update. The rising senior at Mount Pleasant (UT) Wasatch Academy has already taken official visits to Texas A&M and Purdue. That Texas A&M staff is now at Maryland. County issued a top-5 recently that included Maryland, UConn, Purdue, Indiana, and Arizona. While already visiting Purdue, he has upcoming visit dates set with Indiana (Sept. 5), Arizona (Sept. 13), Maryland (Sept. 20), and UConn (Sept. 27). Speaking with sources around the recruitment, as we head into visit season, they tell me they are watching that final UConn visit. One source also added that Maryland could make things interesting.

It is worth continuing to watch which schools he steps on campus at.

Done Danny kinda dirty with their photo choice.

Also, we have to go after Sam Funches.

I guess "ball-in-hand" guard is On3's new buzzword to describe lead guards

I wonder if it’s because he doesn’t really profile as a lead guard? His role projection is kinda hard for me tbh.

UConn is recruiting County to be the backup PG (if Demary stays) and the eventual main PG of the team. Mingo, who projects to be a OAD, looks like the only other PG we are actively recruiting this cycle.

County's high school and circuit teams (much like Mingo's actually) have been littered with other large combo-guard types, so he has been pushed into a scoring role fairly often, but the staff views him as a PG who can pass and make plays off script when needed. Plans/projections can always change (see Aidan Mahaney) but that is their current aim with County.

Does it make any sense at all to recruit a OAD backup PG these days? Love that we may have a 9th county in the state of CT.

I personally agree with your conclusion here - yes recruiting a OAD to be your backup PG is somewhat high risk/low reward - though that's not what was said above in the original statement. I believe the staff's thinking is that Mingo could play a Castle-type role on next year's team (length/defensive potential/athleticism/secondary PG on the floor).
The result of this would be requiring an additional backup PG on the team regardless of Mingo's signing. I'm not sure Mingo is a higher priority than County to them anyway.
