>>The move opens up one of the trickier jobs in college football, as BC’s location and academic standards provide challenges. Boston College’s staff salary pool is among the lowest in major college football, and BC trails ACC peers like Wake Forest in support staff infrastructure.

For athletic director Martin Jarmond, part of the pitch to prospective coaches is the school’s new $53 million indoor football facility, which they debuted in 2018. BC had long lagged in physical facilities, often busing to local schools like Bryant College to practice in bad weather. <<

There were talks of him expressing interest in interviewing for Rutgirls job before Schiano was able to work things out.

I’m not sure about Adazzio for us. There are very few once failed older coaches that seem to be getting it done these days. Much better off hiring someone controversial but almost guaranteed to succeed (Briles) or an FCS coach that has been absolutely killing it.

Why would we want him? He runs the same exact offense as us but with worse QBs

im done with d 1 retread coaches. I’m just pointing out if there are those who want him, we can’t afford him. And he is a better coach than Edsall.

Not that UConn HR’s likely to post a HC opening earlier than late 2020 nor any real interest would even exist in Addazio, the 60 year old guy’s unlikely to have abundant FBS HC offers in the interim. Maybe an O assistant or OC job somewhere ...

IMO Addazio did a better job at BC than Schiano did at Rutgers. It's surprising that they would fire him when he is 6-6 and had some quality wins this year.

I guess the question many of us are wondering is even though UCONN had no intention of changing coaches this year would this development change things?

Is the donor who wanted Addazio 9 years ago still involved with the program?

Adazzio would do better than Edsall but can't afford him. He would probably love to be back in CT also.

Has great relationships with high school coaches in the state also

If you watched BC’s offense, it wasn’t good. He relied on the run and fortunately he had AJ Dillon the past three years.

His line recruiting was good, but BC always recruits good linemen. His QB recruiting was really bad which is what frustrated BC fans. BC used to have NFL caliber QBs, but not under Addazio.

Here is his record:

7-0 vs FCS
12-1 vs non P5
23-41 vs P5
20-33 vs ACC
1-16 vs Top 25

He never had an above 0.500 record in the ACC.

Basically, Addazio won the games weaker competition, but he couldn’t beat good competition. After 7 years of mediocrity it was time to move on.

Sorta seems like an Edsall v1.0 resume.

Which at this point, we'd gladly take.

BC is a 6-7 win program. It's just what they are at this point. Anything better is an outlier. Addazio performed to reasonable expectations.
I think most BC fans would be happy with averaging 7 wins per season as long as there were some 9 win+ seasons on occasion.

BTW, Tom O’Brien’s last 6 seasons at BC wins: 8, 9, 8, 9, 9, 9, with the last 2 in the ACC. And, BC did play in an ACC championship game under O’Brien.

Finally, recruiting under Addazio has been lackluster. Before Addazio, BC’s recruiting classes were usually rated < 50. After Addazio, the classes are usually rated > 65.

This is true. Addazio is strictly a duel threat guy. If I remember correctly we ended up getting Boyle because Addazio turned him away. A good coach can adjust his offense to the talent he has.

Addazio's offense did in general put up points though. He's not terrible. Instead of the triple option he would give Guapo the double option.
