Wow. Toraino Walker made the list. He gets my vote.
Feel like literally everyone should have understood that, lol.I guess the question wasn’t clear enough, it’s which player, at their peak playing for UConn, would you add to this roster.
Correct, Emeka's rookie year would've been his senior year had he stayed at UConn. Clingan's rookie year would've been his junior year had he stayed at UConn. It's why I compared their stats for their freshman and sophomore seasons. Clingan would be a senior this upcoming season, I'm taking Clingan as a senior if I could add one former player to this roster. My original point was just how impressive it was that Okafor won ROTY over Dwight, an All-Time Center. Also, Emeka’s rookie year would have been his Senior year, if we are gonna be picky.
We all saw that Duke game. They were cheapo fouls and to take that one example to prove he was foul prone is bad logic.
Also, you think Okafor didn't alter shots? Over 4 blocks a game and you think that's the sum total of his defense?
This would be Clingan's senior year at UConn. So the comparison about ROY in the NBA isn't really fair.
Doesn't change my answer. On paper Okafor had a better junior season than Clingan's sophomore season as did Kemba as a junior, Donyell as a junior, and Ray as a junior but for this coaching staff and how they do things there is no better pick than Clingan. When healthy and in playing shape we ran offense out of him at the top of the key, he set monster screens, lob threat and the most dominant defense I've ever seen at UConn. We're looking at a four-peat if Clingan was here for his senior season.I guess the question wasn’t clear enough, it’s which player, at their peak playing for UConn, would you add to this roster.
Suhweet man! I’m taking the first team AA, 2x BE DPOTY, NCAAT MOP.Correct, Emeka's rookie year would've been his senior year had he stayed at UConn. So, happy for you! 22 other posters are taking Okafor too. He got 15% of the vote.Suhweet man! I’m taking the first team AA, 2x BE DPOTY, NCAAT MOP.
Love accolades. We can agree on that! So, happy for you! 22 other posters are taking Okafor too. He got 15% of the vote.
I dig national championships.
Recency bias? Why would we pick a PG when our PG’s are solid? Why pick a SG when we have two options who shoot north of 40% from 3 and one of them can play the small forward slot? I am old enough to remember D. Marshall and Butler. I loved those guys. I would not trade Alex for them. Sorry, but Alex has two rings. The only former player that guarantees us a ring, considering the team construction and all, is Clingan. Emeka is a gangster and he does have a ring. But Clingan has two! And Clingan was far more imposing and disruptive on a basketball game than any other UConn center, including Emeka. You’re insanely hyperbolic, and also very obviously have recency bias.
All good!
See, the rings don’t really matter here. It’s add a player to the team that will help get THI TEAM a ring.Recency bias? Why would we pick a PG when our PG’s are solid? Of course national championships matter here. Adding the guy who just won two national championships in his only two seasons, who would have made the Huskies the runaway favorite to three-peat, and the runaway favorite to four-peat makes way more sense than adding a player who played over 20 years ago for a different coaching staff with a different philosophy on how to play the game.See, the rings don’t really matter here. Not taking Donyell or Caron over AK is ridiculous. I understand we all have a lot of tied up love in the current guys who have brought us back to the promised land…But that’s crazy to me
I’ve grown weary of this debate. We can A to D.Of course national championships matter here. We need one more center this roster.Ideally explain your choice.
I don't fully understand your logic. Hasheem was co-BE POY, National Defensive POY, and 2nd team All-America. You're suggesting he'd be our third string center? We need one more center this roster.
Hasheem Thabett. My reason is below.....
Every other position is well stocked in the depth chart so eliminate those options. We don't need a point guard, shooting guard, power forward, or small forward. We have plenty of depth there.
Now who would I pick as a third center along with Tarris Reed Jr and Eric Reibe?
Clingan? No, because its now Reed and Reibes era and Clingan is too good he'd take their minutes and they'd essentially become backup centers. Tarris' is also very good and its his senior year and he is playing for a high lottery spot in the NBA draft. Reibe is a freshman so he may be ok with a backup role at either center or even power forward.
We need a third string center. Hasheem Thabeet (as a junior from the 2008/2009 season) could play valuable minutes behind Reid tak8ng pressure off Reibe. Reid can be either third string center or backup center or backup power forward.
I was thinking the same but I'm not arguing with anyone in this thread. Pick whoever you want. The purpose of this thread is a useless exercise anyway.I don't fully understand your logic. Feel like I’m in La La land over here on Emeka island. Thank youEmeka was the best men’s player in college basketball, not just the best player on an all time UConn team. He was picked second in the draft for a reason (Dwight Howard was #1). Emeka averaged 17.6 points 11.5 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game (down from the 4.7 he averaged as a sophomore). He was also an All American and national defensive player of the year. I love Donovan but was he universally considered the best player on that team? Emeka was the best player in the country. He also dealt with being the best player on the best team in the country as a leader and go to guy.
Clingan. No need to overthink this one.
Makes everything on defense easier for everyone but the opponent.
