Some Possible Choices

Guard play is the most important element in college basketball. We experienced that first hand with the Mahaney experiment not working out as we had hoped, and then we asked way too much of a hobbled Hassan. And then you look at UF with Walter Clayton Jr...

Our team is stacked with wings, just like last year. We just need to get them the ball in dangerous spots. Hard to argue with any of the PGs on your list but Kemba was arguably the best and most clutch PG of the last 20 years so.... Why not? We couldn't really beat anyone off the dribble last year, and Kemba's quicks and crossovers kept his defenders on skates. Hopefully Malachi can play that role.

That said, I'd love to see Bazz or Tristen get a third ring.

That is so tough. But I think walker has what it takes to push many of these fringe teams over the top, like 2006 or last year or 2009 and would make this year's team a title favorite.

My 2nd pick is Okafor with his rim protection no one would go inside and he'd open up the outside for the shooters to knock down even more 3s.

Almost any of those players push thus team to championship favorite. Butlers mental toughness, Rays ice cold dagger 3s and so on.

You gotta like RIP too the ultimate slasher.

It’s Clingan and it’s not close IMO. We saw last year just how much having an all-world rim protector can cover up a lot of defensive deficiencies.
Have we forgotten how great Emeka was? He averaged 4.3 blocks per game for his career, and was able to stay on the court for 30+ mpg because he didn't foul. He was also a go-to scorer in the way that Clingan never was.

Love Clingan, but he's second at best.

Yea unless big Don is on the roster, Emeka is the move.

Picked Emeka, Clingan was my second choice. This team wont have too many issues on offense or guard play IMO, need rim protection and offense rebounding. Important to emphasize this is not a best player discussion, more about roster needs and fit.

If we’re picking for a team to go play 2004 style of basketball, you’re probably right. But playing 2025 style of basketball, I think Clingan’s length and drop coverage is more impactful.

Clingan per 40 minutes his freshman season- 21.1 pts, 17.1 rebs, 5.5 blocks, 1.4 assists, 1.3 steals

Okafor per 40 minutes his freshman season- 10.5 pts, 12 rebs, 5.4 blocks, 1.1 assists, 1 steals

Clingan per 40 minutes his sophomore season- 23.1 pts, 13.1 rebs, 4.4 blocks, 2.7 assists, .9 steals

Okafor per 40 minutes his sophomore season- 19.3 pts, 13.6 rebs, 5.7 blocks, .7 assists, 1.1 steals

#'s don't tell the story on Clingan, he was a human wall defensively. Players simply didn't challenge him. I didn't think I would ever see a more dominant defensive player at UConn than Okafor but Clingan was just that. If he stayed for a third season he would've three-peated in his three college seasons.

Voted Cling but Andrew Hurley is obviously our best closer ever.

When you can get 29 ppg (from all over the floor) and prolific shot blocking/rim protection from a guy that can even handle the ball in a pinch, you take it. Donyell Marshall. Don’t let some missed free throws cloud your judgement.

Okafor’s Junior year was better than Clingan’s Sophomore year. That is what the prompt is here. Which of our past players, at their best, would be the add.

I went with Ray anyways so it’s not my fight, just throwing my 2 cents in to what I thought would be pretty cut and dry.

I voted other give me Rudy to fit this roster. Go to scorer perfect 3 man to add athleticism amd open ip space for all the shooting

Obviously I'd love Kemba or Shabazz. Can't go wrong with Newton after what he just did for us. But I trust Silas Demary enough that I don't need to pick over him

Lot of greats at SG over the years. But Solo Ball was one of the best shooters in the country last year and I'm expecting a step up to a more well rounded offensive game. Same with Silas, I trust him enough to not pick over him

I trust Karaban to do better back in his natural role. I'm very high on Tarris so I trust him even though there are much better options on the table (if I had to pick a C, I'd pick Clingan if it matters)

The one place I'm a little unsure is SF. Braylon is a lights out shooter but we already have 2 other lethal shooters and he's undersized at SF. Stewart could take a big step up, but it's risky to bank on that. I need someone who has size, can defend, and put the ball in the bucket. I also want someone who I loved watching as a player in the NBA because I was too young to watch him at UConn

Give me Caron Butler!

No.

He said add one former player to this roster.

I'm adding Clingan over Okafor and over everyone else. We would be looking at a four-peat if he was still here. He doesn't get penalized because he was too good to stay in college after two seasons.
