Carl's blog talks about the 2014 class and beyond with quotes from ASGR's Bret McCormick who really likes Ekmark, Edwards and Williams:

“Courtney Ekmark is the glue kid that can shoot, that loves basketball, and already has the Connecticut mentality,"

“Sadie Edwards’ game has just gone through the ceiling. She is very athletic and has really smoothed her game out."

“I have Gabby Williams as my No. 2 player in the country, and I know that doesn’t really mean anything. A’ja Wilson is really good, but Gabby could have been No. 1 if she had not hurt her knee (an ACL tear in her right knee suffered last January). She is so athletic and there’s nothing she can’t do.

The usual suspects mentioned for filling out the remainder of the 2014 class (Wilson, Calhoun, Westbeld, Rooks, though no mention of ASGR #17 Lynee Belton who recently visited and is considering UConn among others) as well as Durr and Samuelson in 2015 class. McCormick is not impressed with the depth of the 2014 class.

Thanks for posting that Cat! That's some great stuff - Especially about Edwards and how her game has progressed. I do find it interesting that he says the class is not very deep - that "there are players at the top who are terrific, then the bottom drops out". I would think he means kids in the top 20 or so, but does he generally mean only the top 3-4 kids in the class are terrific? Since Edwards and Ekmark aren't in his top 3-4, I was a little confused by his statement.

Still, no biggie either way. UCONN already has a terrific class and anyone else they land will be gravy. Of course we are all hoping for Wilson. Fingers and toes crossed!

Well he said the class was supposed to be deep, as I had heard/read, but as they've become Sr's it isn't really shaking out that way. Although he did imply the top end players are really top end players. And that's pretty much what UCONN is going after. :)

It could still be that the top 10-20 of 2014 are better than the top 10-20 of 2013????

Good article.........And great to see a National Scouting service speak so Highly of the current (UConn) recruits. And Geno knows we need to cap off the Class with a BIG or 2.

Should A'ja Wilson choose to attend UConn I would be delighted, as would we all.

But failing that (or in addition to that) I hope Geno has a plan B or C that can get
us a post player who, in two years time, can provide us with a useful post presence
at both ends of the court. Not necessarily all-american calibre, but a good solid post.

Man, are you still able to cross fingers and toes after 3 days of Insanity workouts? :)

Not trying to post the entire blog, but he compares Sadie with Cappie Pondexter. Wow!

And our targets in 2015 sound pretty good:

“Asia Durr is amazing,” McCormick said. “She’s a lefty that’s ultra-athletic. She can guard. She can score anyway she wants — off the dribble, 3-point shooting, whatever. She has that Connecticut mentality.

“And Katie Lou Samuelson just has what it takes. She could be an Ann Strother-type, but probably even better.”

I get a funny feeling, Edwards is gonna be really good.

In the video someone put up of Durr a couple weeks ago, she looked like she was going to be a fantastic player. Definitely someone I would love UCONN to get.

Barely. Actually it's my legs that don't seem to be working properly.

McCormick mentions the depth of big kids (6-5/6) in the 2015 class. One of the best is Kalani Brown (LA), daughter of former NBA player (Celtics, Heat) PJ Brown. Kalani was recently interviewed by FullCourt and identified UConn as one of the schools recruiting her:

FC: What schools are actively recruiting you right now?
KB: UConn, Baylor, Louisville, Texas A&M, Texas ... lots of schools in Texas.

Besides crossing my fingers and toes, I've also braided my bellybutton hair!
Hope you didn't do that while sitting down. You might not be able stand up or bear the pain.
