ACC 2025-26

Anyone here who watched the ND-NC State game? Seeing that Trygger had no field goal attempts for the entire game in 28 minutes. Really puzzling.
Yep. To me she’s a good barometer for how the team played on offense. She doesn’t create her own shot but is super efficient and can score from the paint or the 3 - she just needs ball movement to help set her up for success.

0 shots tells you all you need to know. State has talent, that 4 (Tilda, KP, Zam and Zoe) are as talented as any 4 in the conference. But they don’t mesh well. Too much hero ball. Too much one on one. The ball doesn’t move. It doesn’t reverse. Someone like Tilda suffers because of it.

Zam and Zoe I thought played too selfish today. When ND would make a shot it was like they were personally trying to come back and get it back. 1 on 1 or 1 on 2. Poor decisions. Poor ball movement.

It’s going to be an interesting offseason in Raleigh.

On the positive side for State, at least they don't have to endure another beat down from their neighbors tomorrow.
Honestly, I'd much rather play them with their mess of a backcourt than a motivated Notre Dame with the best player in the conference.

Hidalgo is already getting the Latta treatment.

At the beginning of the season, I would not have expected ND to blowout the Wolfpack, as a matter of fact I would’ve thought it would be the other way around.

A very quick handshake between Ivey and Wes Moore 👀
She whooped his butt twice this season. He was as red as a tomato on the sidelines trying to figure out what went wrong.

Last season, we all jumped on Niele for the late-season ND swoon (that seemed to be aided by their 2OT loss at NC State). This season, Wes Moore is going to get that same energy.

He's a great coach--maybe the best coach in the conference. But he blew it this year.

A "rookie" is by definition not a 21 year old who's a three-year professional veteran. Laaaaame.

What determines the class status? On the the men's side there are players that played professionally overseas that came in clasified as juniors not freshmen.

Good individual players who aren’t good as a team.
Pieces clearly don't fit. That's on the coaching staff for (1) bringing them in and (2) not doing much/enough to build chemistry.

Having watched NC State twice vs ND (once live) this season, I just didn't get a sense of passion from the team. Nor, a lot of joy. I thought they looked tired at ND, but I didn't sense much passion or joy last night in the 1st half either when the game was tight. And the effort in the 3rd quarter was not there. That was the opposite of what I saw last year. Perhaps it was just the circumstances of both games and teams though.

You are touching on things that have bugged State fans for large parts of the year. Partly it’s due to no seniors, part is just personalities. Last year State had a fantastic trio of seniors not just talent wise but leadership skills. Aziaha James was a firey competitor. Madison Hayes was the absolute heartbeat of the team. Saniya had a strong voice on the team and did the dirty work defensively with Hayes. They provided the spark and passion that wore off on team mates.

This year this team lacks those personalities. Zoe and KP are both super talented but also just very laid back and casual and quiet. Can’t tell if they are up 20 or down 20. Tilda is skilled but very … nice. Doesn’t have a mean steak in her. Q at times brings energy but also is a player trying to find her place and doesn’t give off leadership vibes. Zam is firey. She’s the closest thing to bringing that sort of edge to a game but I wouldn’t say she has shown leadership skills to this point.

I think in general it’s just who this group is. I appreciate all of them - but I do think this group needs a leader and Idk that it’s in the current locker room. I doubt State has the finances to keep that 4 together another year, speaking from a talent perspective I wish they could, but as a unit it may not be the worst thing for a shake up to happen.

What a meltdown from UL btw. The 10 second violation when the pressure wasn’t even that dialed up??? Then the 5 point possession giving up 2 offensive rebounds and one off a missed FT? Brutal.

WOOF WOOF

Meanwhile,

-UVA football lost to Duke in the ACCCG. No comment on the departed QB.
-UVA men's basketball (and their 23-year-old "first year" star) lost to Duke (led by an 18-year-old).
-UVA women's basketball didn't make it out of the second round of the ACC Tournament despite Mr. Reddit-Williams' largesse.

In fairness, the basketball teams are still alive, but who here thinks either one is headed to Indianapolis/Phoenix?

They melted down against Duke in the waning seconds of that regular season game.

They melted down against UVA in the waning seconds of that game.

They melted down against Notre Dame in the waning seconds of that game.

They melted down against Duke in the waning seconds of that ACC tournament championship game.

Jeff Walz cost his team two ACC championships this season because he could not figure out how to manage them when the game was on the line. They don't have a true PG and don't have any appreciable leadership on the court because so many of them are young players. When the moment gets too big for them, they will fold.

Talented? Sure. Experienced (enough)? Not really. I would not be surprised if they didn't make it out of the first weekend despite hosting. A team like Alabama/Georgia can beat them.

WANING SECONDS

Without dispute, UofL melted down against Duke in the ACC tournament. Let's look at the other games referenced.

Regular season game against Duke: Duke led by 5 with 2:10 remaining. UofL outcored Duke 6-2 down the stretch, but that was not enough to pull out the victory.

Regular season game against UVA: UVA led by 2 with 1:45 remaining. Both teams scored 6 points the rest of the game. UVA wins by 2.

Second regular season game against ND: ND led by 3 with 1:00 remaining. Both teams scored 2 points the rest of the game. ND wins by 3.

Let's look at the other two close ACC games not referenced.

Regular season game against UNC: UNC led by 3 with 0:11 remaining. UofL outscored UNC 3-0 to send the game into overtime. UofL outscored UNC 10-0 in OT to win the game.

Regular season game against NC St: NC St led by 5 with 0:43 remaining. UofL outscored NC St 5-0 to send the game into overtime. UofL outscored UNC 14-6 in OT to win the game.

Jeff, is that you? 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

None of that disputes what I said:

Your coach and your team blew multiple opportunities for ACC titles this season due to poor late game management.

Keep up the meltdowns and they won't make it out of the first weekend.

Didn't think putting this in the Transfer portal thread made sense.

Finally, some good news for NC State. It has been a brutal 48 hours for the basketball teams.

The who was our MCBB coach finally ripped off the mask and exposed himself to the world as a total attention whore. I hope the entire LSU athletics program gets sucked deep into quicksand in a Louisiana bayou and never is heard from again.

Kiffin, Mulkey, AND Wade (for a second stint)! 🥴🥴🥴

What's the opposite of "Holy Trinity"?

I'm so glad I'm not an LSU fan!
